Pleasant Stay.

Location quietness and comfort
Good hotel but some of the staff couldn't understand basic English. So is very hard to communicate to ask for direction/guide to places.

Reasonably priced hotel

Clean, Staff are polite, spacious
The room is clean and spacious. We stayed there for 3 nights. My only issue is the distance to the train station, it says online that the hotel is only 5 minutes walk to the nearest station (ASOK), but it's actually 15-20 minutes walk. So when you're dead tired from shopping - I don't suggest you walk from Asok or Phrom Phong station to go back to this hotel. - take a cab, it'll cost only 60Baht at the most.

Huge disappointment

This hotel is "just OK". The biggest disappointment was what I got for the money I paid. I booked a "suite". According to the dictionary, it means "a group of rooms in a hotel that is used by one person, couple, family, etc.". Instead of separate areas for sleeping and living, it was just a single room. You don't call something a SUITE if it is just a room unless you want to miselead people on purpose. I had asked for a non-smoking room. The room smelled very much of cigarette smoke and of air spray which had been used lavishly to conceal the smell. The unpleasant smell faded only after two days. The room was dimly lit and the whole hotel was a bit gloomy. Everything was dull brown (decoration of the room) or dirty grey (corridors). Lighter curtains are missing and you don't want to close the black-out curtains in the middle of the day. If you want to turn on all the lights you must push 10 (!) buttons. Leaving the room means that all the electricity is turned off, including the power sockets - which means you can't charge your laptop while you are away from the room. The aircon control panel remained a mystery to me and I ended up using masking tape to cover one side of the nozzles (which are in the ceiling) because it was blowing straight down to the bed. I don't know how they can call themselves a 4-star hotel. Do you use IKEA furniture in a 4-star place? No, you certainly do not. Previous week I stayed in a true 5-star hotel in Wireless Road area and paid only 10% more for my stay. Mermaid was a huge disappointment and I would never stay here again.
