Close to JR station.

Very nice room. Not so small as common Japanese hotel. Location is very good. Right besides the JR station.

Overrated, tired and outdated hotel.

This hotel should rate as 2 stars at best. It is dirty, outdated, staff are inadequate, and the facilities are sub-par. An example of being outdated: rooms have traditional keys instead of key cards. Staff will only release ONE key per room, which is quite inconvenient for a married couple- especially if one wants to use the bathhouse. Like most rooms in Japan, the key is required for the electricity in the room, so if you want to leave your spouse in the room while taking the key with you to use hotel facilities, they should be prepared to sit in the dark! Staff were completely oblivious to this issue, and suggested we go separate ways and meet in the lobby, or drop the key off to staff in the lobby when leaving... There is only ONE plug outlet in the entire room. To solve this, staff has placed a 3 way plug splitter, which is inconvenient and can pose a fire hazard when you have plugged in 2 computers and a phone charger. Wow! The rooms are very outdated and dusty. The air conditioner/heating unit is filled with black mold, which was quite gross. The bathroom is TINY with a very low ceiling, and a toilet that overhangs the bathtub. The bathhouse was sub-par. The main bath had mold and mildew growing up every side and the window's caulking was peeling and mildewy. There were no staff present (6:15pm) at the entrance or in the bath house. This hotel was a ghost town- provided we were staying in the off season, it was extremely empty, yet staff decided to place us in a room which was almost a 4 minute walk down the hall from the elevator. Unfortunately staff were not very helpful, and their English skills were sub-par, surprising for such a highly rated hotel. We stayed at a different Nikko hotel in Japan and it was miles above the service and quality we experienced here. For the money we paid to stay here, and the Nikko brand, we expected a much higher quality hotel. Save your money and go elsewhere! We will never return her

Exceptional location, comfortable

Location, location, location
The hotel is adjacent to the Nara JR Station, near many restaurants, a laundramat and the bus station next to the JR Station. When traveling in a foreign country, having fast convenient (inexpensive also a plus) public transit makes it so much easier to get around. The hotel was very clean, elevators were fast, staff are friendly and helpful. Many speak English. There's a Japanese style spa/bath we didn't use but looked good. This would be my "go-to" hotel should we return to Nara.
