Good Clean Hotel in Hard to Reach Location

WiFi, Quiet and proximity to eateries.
Route Inn Joetsu is a hotel that most travellers would find it difficult to get to. I was dropped off by car as I have a friend in the local area. Apart from that you could get a bus from one of the local stations or a costly taxi. On the positive side the hotel's WiFi internet was efficient and the hotel was very quiet and comfortable in that respect. Across the road from the hotel is Joetsu Leisureland where you can do some tenpin bowling but on the same block is a great restaurant called Guy Kaku which i understand is a chain store across Japan. If you stay here ensure that you've planned how you'll get to the hotel beforehand.

Good value for trekker

Good value, free internet and the coin laundry.
It's a quaint hotel which would be ideal for those heading off to the small island of Sado the next day. Also a convenient stop over if planning to go hiking in the nearby mountains. I've stayed here a number of times and for the first time I walked from Naoetsu station to the hotel. Took about half an hour. Alternatively you can take the bus. Staff issued me free buffet breakfast. A little limited in choice. Overall I like it as a stop over hotel where you can catch up with those not accompanying via the internet.

Lovely staff but very small rooms and off station

Free Breakfast despite a no breakfast status from Agoda
It was a small local hotel which is some 10 min drive from station. We had to spend betwn 1000 to 1200 yen in and out of hotel as there were no free shuttle service to station. On hindsight, we should have stayed nearer Niigata Station for convenience. For us, it was better to move out to other places while we were there. Still it was a lovely stay as we were given free breakfast as part of "service" and the hotel staff were simply most accommodating in opening up the small common bath for ladies late in the night after closing hours.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Stay in Niigata enroute to Nagano

lovely hotel -- just a tad too far from station

Charming staff with a ready smile and free breakfast
Better to stay in Niigata for convenience as the Noetsu Station is also some 10 mins away from this local hotel and no free shuttle bus to ferry us in and out of hotel. Had to spend 1000yen to 1200yen in and out of hotel to station. Compensated by the free beakfast as part of their service despite being given a no breakfast status in our hotel booking. All in all a lovely surprise.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Move to other parts of town or station to get to see more things

Room With a View

Nice view, good facilities and reasonable location
i can't say anything bad about the place. i paid yen for my night and had a great view of the seki river, and the room while small had all the mod cons. i plugged into the internet for free (my laptop - their connection) and made use of the t.v., air con and coin laundry. good value.
Shopping Tip: Try Gyu Kaku for a good feed (3000 yen) but slightly expensive. It's across the road from the hotel. There is also a decent book shop called Toda Books a slight distance from the hotel.

Great view from little room

The view of the Seki River
the route inn jyoetsu is about a 10 minutes bus ride from naoetsu station. i used a single room with double bed. it's a little poky. the positives were the view of the river and mountains outside my window and the free breakfast tokens i was offered. in addition to that there are good eating options just across the road from the hotel, and the laundry downstairs was convenient also. oh, and the free internet access is good for those carrying a laptop also.
Restaurant Tip: Try Gyu Kaku restaurant just next door to Leisure Land. Very tasty and very filling.

Adequate, good breakfast, nice restaurant
nice public bath, the kind that squeamish americans can't really deal with because you must use it naked! gasp!!!
