Nice location but cleannes is not really

Good location
The staff aittitude and location were great, But the only thing is cleanness- the smell of the cleaning chemical too strong and can smell everywhere- that was the negative spot. The a/c was too old ( 199x series maybe) and too noisy and not cold at old.

Adult hotel

Low price, friendly staff, clean room
We enjoyed our stay here. It was one block away from the Catholic cathedral, reasonably close to the Robinson's Malate Mall, Zamboanga Restaurant and the Family 21 karaoke lounge. A 7-11 store was just across the street. Staff was very helpful and food at the include d breakfast was okay. There was a computer available to guests for free. No hot water and the room safe did not work and could not be fixed during our stay. I used the hotel safe deposit box for my passport, credit cards and US currency. The hotel itself has an adult theme and is not suitable for children or families. Adult films are on two channels that any children have complete access to. It is located right next to a girlie bar where women stand outside the bar. The back end of the Hotel Sogo Malate is a drive in motel where cars or motorcycles/scooters can drive in and be hidden in private garages while the couples enjoy their stay, whether it is overnight or just for a few hours. It is located on a one way street with plentiful taxis.

A Very Nice Hotel For A Very Modest Price

A/C Again Worked Very Well -- Comfortable Bed -- Very Attentive Staff
This is our 3rd review (for our 3rd week's stay -- March 30 to April 6, 2015) @ Sogo Mabini. For this week we were again in an "Executive" room, this time Room 246. Again, a very comfortable bed & a good working AC unit. No mirrors on this ceiling either. No morning paper delivery to this class of room, but there are 2 free English language complimentary newspapers (Philippine Star & Manila Bulletin) available at the 1st floor front desk (about 30 papers each delivered daily about 6:30 am). They go fast, so if you're up early grab one of each right away. The only problem we had with this room was with the toilet. It was clogged on Day 1 with our very first flush. At first we tried letting the problem self-correct. But by Day 3 we had to call for help. The fellow who came got it unclogged right away, on his 2nd try with the plunger. But by the next day it was clogged again and no amount of work by the staff was successful in getting it unclogged again. We think there is a problem with the drainage pipes beneath the floor. (Maybe something is stuck in there?) Our advice: AVOID Room 246. Get a different Executive class room. There are plenty of this class of room at this hotel.

A Really Nice Bathroom -- Lots of Storage Space -- Good Size Room
This is our 2nd review (for our 2nd week's stay) @ Sogo Mabini. For this week we were in a "Superior Double", Room 603. This is a very large room with both a fridge and an electric kettle. Again, a very comfortable bed & a good working AC unit. No mirrors on the ceiling though, like there were in Room 240 we were in the week before. The CR is MUCH larger and has ample counter space to the right and left of the sink. Plenty of space for all your toiletries. There is also an electric outlet in this CR as well as one by the desk. So, 2 working electric outlets in this room catagory. There is a lot of storage space in this room, so if you wish to totally unpack your suitcase you will have more than enough drawer and closet space to put everything away. Also with this room you will have 2 daily newspapers placed outside your room door every morning about 6:30 am (the Philippine Star and the Manila Bulletin). The elevator DOES go to this floor, and the distance to the room is a short walk. If you decide to walk south on Mabini you will quickly come to the Harrison Mall (a 5-10 minute walk). Although not as nice as Robinsons, it has 2 levels and a good number of places to sit & eat or buy take out. Also, the central atrium has a large round seating couch so you can rest your feet. The 2nd level has 4 shops to buy cell phones, SIM cards, and whatever load to your cell phone you need for the day, days or week. You will pay a 1 or 2 peso commission here for your load, unlike @ the Customer Service desk in Robinsons (just to your left when you go inside their front door) which does not charge anything extra beyond the cost of the load. All in all, Room 603 is definitely worth its daily room rate.

A Very Nice Hotel for A Very Modest Price

A/C Works OK -- Very Comfortable Beds -- Very Helpful Staff
Our stay at Sogo Hotel was pleasant. We had the "Executive" room and although small, you get what you pay for. We were in Room 240 facing the rear of the building. Breakfast is 180 pesos. There is a daily buffet from 6 AM to 10 AM with a variety of Filipino foods, but also Western foods too like scrambled eggs, toast & jam, corn flakes and milk, and juice. Sticky rice is ALWAYS available and VERY GOOD. The coffee is brewed in a drip coffeemaker. Bananas are usually available. There is 1 elevator for the hotel that does not stop on 2. To get to our room we had to either take the elevator to the 3rd floor and walk down one flight or walk up one flight through the door next to the front desk. Inconvenient, but good exercise. All the girls of the front desk were VERY polite and ALWAYS helpful. Not all in-room safes work, but this one did. There are safe deposit boxes at the front desk. Available shelf space is by the house telephones for privacy when you need be in your box. No fridge or electric kettle in this size room, so we bought a nice stainless steel one for 715 pesos at Robinsons' Dep't Store on Pedro Gil. Call down to the front desk and they will send up a FREE ice bucket upon request. Robinsons is a bit of a hike from the hotel, but you can take a jeepney north on Mabini Street to Pedro Gil for 8 pesos. You can flag one down right outside the front door. There is a 7-11 across the street, so if you need a quick purchase they are open 24 hours. They have tables and benches in front to sit at and talk with the locals. We booked 4 7-day reservations which I would recommend. If something goes wrong, you then have the option of cancelling a future week's booking. The bathroom is NOT very large, there are no shelves. There is ONLY ONE electric outlet. That's it, 1. We were constantly changing our plug-ins coz we had 2 cell phones, a laptop, the electric kettle, and a rechargable battery device. A 2nd outlet would have been nice.
