Seen better days, but great staff

Very helpful and friendly staff, and right in the middle of the action
Hotel Utse is slap in the middle of Thamel, which makes it very convenient for shopping and restaurants. It also means the air quality is pretty poor right outside the door. The hotel is Tibetan in style, and pretty old. The decor is in need of updating. My bed was creaky but comfortable. To be honest I only needed to book 1 night at his stage in my trip, and I was short of cash so I went for Utse. Despite my low spend, the staff really went out of their way to be helpful, especially since I made 2 airport pickup/drop requests, due to booking a flight over everest super-early (5am drop) on the day I was actually checking out. My flight was heavily delayed in taking off and landing, which meant their driver was waiting 4 hours just to bring me back to the hotel to check out and leave, but wait he did. And with a smile. When they took me back to the airport there was an elderly couple in the back of the jeep. When I got out, the lady bowed with her prayer beads clasped in her Namaste-ing hands, and placed a traditional silk scarf around my neck. This was totally unexpected and rather touching, considering I'd only really been in their hotel to sleep, and even then only for 4-5 hours! Considering the price I paid (around GBP 15 for 1 night, plus about the same for the pick-ups and drops), I was satisified.

Absolutely delightful

Atmosphere (quaint Nepalese), Most Attentive Management, Super Location
Absolutely no complaints. The lobby lounge-connected to the Restaurant made the lower level very guest-friendly and a super place to meet like-minded people and to share ideas and experiences. The room was large and roomy with good air conditioner and very comfortable beds, but the bathroom was rather basic. The restaurant served tasty food with good varieties.

centrally located but dirty bathroom

central location
Centrally located but many disappointing aspects. Their website says they have hot water 24 hours a day. This is incorrect, for the two days we were there, they had hot water about half the time. Nepal has power cuts throughout so unless a hotel has a generator/gas/solar heat for the hot water, they shouldn't lie to people saying they have hot water 24 hours a day. Bathroom was dirty, there was water in the tub when we initially checked in and the toilet seat was broken. booked through Agoda- Per their website, they offer "free courtesy transfer from airport to hotel for all prebooked guests". I emailed them after booking to request a pickup and they replied with a response saying there would be a $10 fee each way since I booked through agoda. Due to lack of internet, I didn't get the email until they picked me up so I was duped into paying the $10 fee. They should be more clear on their website that they only offer free airport pickup for guests booking directly with them, not "all prebooked guests". By the way, airport pickup would have been around $5 had I just gotten a taxi at the airport so not only are they charging guests for pickup, they are charging an outlandish price for it. Would not stay here again, for about $37/night, there are plenty of better places to stay at in Kathmandu,

In the heart of Thamel

Very well run and geared up for foreign travellers.
Has a good feel, quite Tibetan in style. Quite a dark interior and rooms also a little dark but not a problem. Rooms clean & comfortable. Boiled filtered drinking water on each floor. Quiet roof top garden. Restaurant food very good. Right in the middle of Thamel, easy to get to and from. Wifi downstairs.

Quaint hotel with great location

Located in the best area of Kathmandu amongst all the shopping action.
This hotel offers convenience of location as well as an oasis to escape for a delicious meal or drinks right within the hotel.

Hotel bien situé dans Thamel

Son emplacement, son restaurant, le confort des chambres.
Hotel bien situé pour le shopping et les sorties. Décoration Tibétaine sympathique, très bon restaurant pour les plats népalais et tibétains.
