Excellent location as a base

Location. Roof top terrace. Hotel taxis
We had a superior room which was comfortable. The hot wAter was hit and miss and indeed seemed to come out of the floor when the shower was turned on. Small thing but everything got very wet. We used the hotel taxis to organise two tours. One driver had excellent English and went out of his way to be informative. The other drove like a rocket - he had a seatbelt, we did not have anchor points in ours & when we mentioned this, he still drive far too fast through villages. I also think when one buys 'a tour' it should include entrance fees or this should be explained - not thrust upon someone on arrival such as to Sagaing and the archieological sites as it increases the price considerably. Location is excellent - the road is a bit of a mess, but that is Mandalay.

Nice hotel

Good standard, breakfast and helpful staff
It is a good hotel for a three star. Modern and helpful staff. However it can be a bit noisy. It is near the night market, and in the early morning there is the nearby pagoda that has a prayer calling over a loudspeaker. I noticed some guests complaining about this in the morning as we checked out. The response from one staff member was that it is their religion and it brings you good luck. So one persons noise is anothers religious expression. Don't be put off by this. There is a limited selection of good 3-star hotels catering for western tourists in this location. So put up with an early morning wake up call and enjoy a nice hotel stay.

A wonderful night

The room was very clean with a bath! The staff were extremely helpful. The roof top restaurant was great day and night.
We only got one night in Mandalay and had a 50% last minuite deal for this hotel. We were upgrading and treated wonderfully by staff. The puppet show and music along for cocktails and food made for a good send off.

Great Mandalay Hotel

rooftop restaurant, cleanliness, location
It's close to the air asia bus stop (5 min ride) that comes in from the Mandalay airport. They had an unexpected free marionette and harp show during dinner on the rooftop which was spectacular. Food quality and service were top notch. Big buffet for breakfast, good food. Rooms were nice.

Two nights in Mandaly

Close to the station, clean and comfortable,
Hotel Yandanarbon is close to Mandalay station: We walked there in less than 10 minutes after arriving from Yangon by train (so called "sleeper") at 5:30 in the morning. Despite it being so early and well before the advertised check-in time of 2:00pm we were given a room straight away. Unfortunately the room had two single beds, not a double as requested. The reception staff apologised for this and explained that there were no double bed rooms available because of the early check-in. As we had not expected to be allocated a room so early we opted to wait until later in the morning, leave our bags and go for a walk around town and find some breakfast. W hen we returned after 10:00am we were told that a double bed room ould not be available that day but housekeeping could push the beds together, which we accepted. The hotel serrved a good breakfast, asian and basic western, on the roof garden which serves as restaurant and bar. The view from there is excellent; almost a 360 degree panorama of Mandalay. A free traditional show of music and puppetry is performed there each evening. Overall, a good value hotel close to the hub of Mandalay. The rooms are a little on the small side and ours had no natural air having no indow that opened. My only other criticism of our room was that hot water took literally 5 minutes of running the tap before it arrived. This probably does not apply to all rooms but depends on where the room is located relative to the hot water sevice. Staff were allways attentive and courteous.
