Food, drink and entertainment

The Chimney Restaurant

The Chimney Restaurant

At the time when the longest standing restaurant of its quality was created, the path to The Chimney was just a series of dirt lanes winding between stone houses in the jewel of the medieval Kathmandu Valley. In a fairytale land of not so long ago, the infamous Boris Lissanevitch established The Chimney. Boris' name alone conjures up legends of his unheeded extravagance and enigmatic adventures; famed Russian ballet dancer, entrepreneur, and entertainer of royalty, the tradition of the unprecedented Boris and his Chimney Restaurant continues to this day.

The Sunrise Cafe

The Sunrise Cafe

Just across the lobby, is the Sunrise Café, a casual, light and accommodating restaurant overlooking expansive and beautifully landscaped gardens and pools.Open from 6.30 a.m to 11.00 p.m with a seating capacity of 120 guests, the Sunrise serves buffet as well as a-la-carte for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Sunrise also hosts exciting events every week: Orient Express, a culinary journey through the far East, every Wednesday. Italian Treasure, an authentic Italian buffet every Monday brought to you by our expert chefs.

Indeed 5 star hotel in Nepal, clean hotel with goo
However, the location wise is not as good as if you were to book the hotel in Thamel. I will still prefer booking a cheaper hotel in Thamel which has more things to do. Went to the Casino, but the service and attitude was very disappointing. Apparently, they mostly only welcome Indian customers.

Not a five star hotel
There is nothing wrong with the Yak & Yeti. Location is good, garden is nice, food is ok, staff is friendly and rooms are spacious and with good views. Just don't expect five star standard. Our room, in particular the bathroom, was relatively worn. Shuttle car was battered. In-house restaurant, The Chimney, is not expensive and service is very good, but food is somewhat on the unexciting side. We found the in-house travel service on the expensive side, and were not warned that the hiking trip we wanted to take from the closest 2000m mountain top was a waste, as the smog/mist/fog hid the Himalayan mountain ridge we thought we would see. Guide was good, though.

Old is Not Always Gold
location, grounds, cleanliness
The hotel experience was satisfactory. The reception room service, and room were alright. This hotel lacks sparkle and upbeat performance. Its an aging institution and it could use an overhaul. There is, for example no comparison with the standards of the Hyatt in Kathmandu. Those two hotels are e n different league and, to be fair, the prices at the Yak and Yeti are much cheaper. I consider the Yak and Yeti to be a four star hotel. The excellence in surroundings service and food is just not there.
