More like a 3 star hotel that is badly performing

OK Location?
At least 5 mosquitos will be following you the moment you walked into the lobby. Scary. Staff is very nice and polite. However the room is dim and extremely old. Inconsistent internet till I couldn't book an hotel or train for subsequent days. Very sad and frustrated. If you are someone who plan and decide on the move, you can't do any planning in this hotel. The room does give u anti-mossy device and I got zero bites. I wouldn't say it's value for money. I find it can't even compare to a guest house in indo china.

so so

Located close to the jiatong university
The hotel is quite old . It's located about 15 minutes walk from the metro station .The room size is decent but all the furniture very tired and in my room half of the power plugs didn't work . Even though it was non smoking room it still has strong tobacco smell. The breakfast was awful there are plenty of other places around to eat . And as usual for this kind of hotels the stuff doesn't speak English at all. The hotel is quite cheap but I am sure for the same amount of money one could find more reasonable accommodation .

Avoid at all costs

Junius Boutique Hotel
First the room was unclean, as soon as I went in my first night, the bin in the toilet was not emptied and still had the filth that was left over from the previous stay. The electronic safe was not working so I had to use the manual key from the front desk to open it again and again. The shower gels were obviously reused, as they did not bother to replace them with new ones. Tv was so tiny it was hard to see anything and if you don't speak chinese, forget it as they don't have any english channels. I have also left the do-not-disturb sign outside my room before I went out, because I didn't have time to have my valuables locked in the safe before I had to go out; I come back later to find that it's been ignored and someone came into the room.

Spacious room bad location

spacious, budget, clean
The room was spacious but the location if far from the tourist attraction, they don't have dining for room service and it's kinda difficult to find a legit restaurants nearby.

Pleasant, good value for money

Good location, quiet, friendly staff
The first room was not too comfortable and was still being cleaned. We asked to be moved to another room, and the staff quickly arranged for a bettter option.

Basic stay before returning home

only ok as some issues with visitors out of town people staying with me which has not occurred in larger hotel in which I've stayed(probably not paying enough to the local police) as they say it is a police requirement.

Clean, Tidy and Quiet. Location is fairly good.
The location is fairly good. Walking distance to railway transportation, around 20mins. Clean, Tidy room. I will use it next time.

Second stay here: just as good as the first

Quiet, nicely-located, well-run
this was my second stay at the hotel carolina. both times, i wanted a reasonably-priced place not too far from yuyintang, a terrific live music venue next to the west yan'an road subway station. i was as happy with this stay as i wasa with the first: the staff was efficient and professional -- not obsequious or effusively friendly or anything, which is fine with me -- and the room was clean and well-appointed. the rooms here are smallish and comfortable -- one might say 'cozy' -- and the atmosphere is that of a business hotel. not many frills, not many tourists, not much noise. if you need to be in the neighborhood, it's worth a try.

Quiet but great location

Quiet, location, cleanliness
basically a business hotel, with small, very clean and well-maintained rooms and a responsive (but mostly only chinese-speaking) staff. very comfortable. just the right kind of place for doing some sightseeing in the french concession area of shanghai, which you can travel to by bus, metro, or walking all very easily. travelers used to luxury hotels may find this place a little threadbare in spots, particularly common areas outside the rooms; but the rooms themselves are in great shape, and it's an excellent value.
