Kakslauttanen Igloo West Village

I was staying in the glass igloo on 9th Jan - 11th Jan 2015. The weather was very cold, about -30 degrees. I am lucky that I was able to see the aurora on both nights!!! The glass igloo is really a good place to wait for the aurora, because it is too cold outside.

Good glass igloo, extremely poor service

excellent view, glass igloo, uniqueness

In terms of the room, it is not bad, but should equip with telephone line to front desk. From the bad sides, the front desk should operate 24/7, staff should be more helpful in both front desk and restaurant. The staff in overall is not trained to help people.

Not worth for that price!

The view of igloo room.
3.7
We had a night in igloo glass room. It was long long way from reception to walk from room. It was not a snow day but it was hardly walk the suitcase on the road with rocks. Can't imagine how to walk it with snow season. Staffs suggest us to put the luggages in the luggage room near reception but it is too far for me to get things from there. They didn't offer to drive or help us with luggage. Shower is outside about 5mins walk in a common area you need to shower together with other people. U basically see the naked people who u shower with. And it's not a safe as anyone could come in. The room is incredibly small, not even a mirror in the toilet. Nothing in the room other than 2beds and a toilet. No kettle, TV, telephone, mirror, rubbish bin. Away from town, need to take taxi or bus. Totally not worth for the price with this facilities. We just want to leave ASAP.

One night stay for experience is enough

The glass igloo
6.3
We arrived in noon and the restaurant only serve breakfast and dinner. We've asked if there's anything they could prepare for us as we were famished after a long bus ride from Rovaniemi. They served us some watery chicken soup and bread which cost us something fr 8-12euros (can't really remember) each. It's a long walk from the reception to the glass igloo and you have to carry your own baggage - no porter service. The heating system in our igloo wasn't functioning well and the staff came twice before it got fixed. Overall, you are paying just for the experience of staying at the igloo and that's about it. You will not be able to see the Aurora clearly from within the igloo as there will be a lot of inconsiderate occupants who leave their lights on even when they are not in the igloo. Light pollution minimizes your chance of seeing the Aurora. You have to get out of your igloo and head out to the open area near the bridge (out in the cold) in order to catch some Aurora.

Great Experience

Friendly staff, fun activities, perfect enviornment.
9.3
we stay one night in Igloo and one night in cottage, very different experience. The Cottage is large, warm decoration, with private sauna and kitchen. The Igloo is very small and you need to walk around 5 mins to go to shower and sauna. However stay in the Glass igloo is an special experience, you can lie on bed and wait for the Aurora in a warm and confortable room. It is great! They also provide some activites, we had night safafi and hiking with kusky, we highly recommended the hiking one, since the view is fantastic!

Staff was very helpful and scenery was lovely. Glass igloo and cabin were both clean and comfortable. The best resort for aurora hunting.

Relaxing stay, except not much choices for food, sight seeing. No clear signage to the amenities, cannot find the shower rooms.
