Over-rated with terrible bathrooms

Decor of hotel and room looks like it is stuck in a time warp. Near train station so that was a plus, although we would have bypassed staying at greymouth altogether if we knew that it is very viable to hop on the train immediately from our intercity bus (we were worried if the bus would be late). Greymouth is a rather sad place especially if you do not have a vehicle, most eateries close really early and we had to retreat to the very unimpressive restaurant. The worse part of our stay was really the hotel bathroom. The door could not close fully and water leaked to the bathroom floor. It was a terrible mess. At least the hotel staff members are helpful.

Disappointed this time

We didn't stay in the main hotel like we had done before (which was nice). we were put in the outside rooms by the carpark, which were very tired, noisy and a bit smelly. I realize we paid cheaper than normal but still was very disappointed. would stay again but only if we could stay in the main hotel but not sure how to do that when booking in.

I know Greymouth has had some tough times, but this hotel seemed quite tired. The building inside and out needed a good clean. I had to scrape someone elses (previous occupants) toothpaste off the bathroom tiles. The bedspread had stains on it. I guess I was expecting more.

Well appointed room, quite clean and comfortable but some condition issues due to the age of the property. These were only cosmetic and shouldn't put anyone off staying here. Bar service was excellent and the barman very friendly and great if you want to chat. Food was very good and pricing was reasonably good considering it was a hotel restaurant. I would be happy to recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a step up from motel type accommodation without going overboard with costs. Very good value for money here.
