Hands down, the friendliest staff!

clean, well-presented room; good breakfast options; friendly, helpful staff
Honestly, the staff at Koto Hotel make this place! By far, the friendliest, most helpful staff I've come across in Vietnam (and possibly SE Asia). Always someone at the front desk to greet you, open the door, get you a glass of water, etc. When our Halong Bay overnight cruise was cancelled due to an incoming storm, Koto Hotel let us keep our room and honored the price we had booked for on Agoda. When we left early in the morning to catch a flight, one of staff even brought us a bag of toast and bananas since we were to early to make it to their free breakfast! As far as the rooms, I would say they're extremely good value for what you're paying. Nicely decorated and spacious with a comfy bed, tv, fridge, and wardrobe. The aircon worked really well - though someone else in my party had some problems getting theirs to run as cold. Cleanliness was at a standard I would expect from a more expensive hotel. My only gripe is about the price of laundry. My boyfriend asked to have his completed within the same day, and the woman at the desk said it would be "more expensive" at $2.50. However, I had laundry done over the course of two days (not express in the slightest), and I was charged at the same rate. For Vietnam, $2.50 for next-day laundry is a rip-off when you know it's normally a dollar! A different person was working the desk when I checked out and said it all cost the same, but that doesn't really make sense based of the conversation my boyfriend had the female staff member. Overall, my complaint about the laundry wouldn't stop me from recommending this place to anyone visiting Hanoi. I'd say this was the best accommodation during my travels in Vietnam.

Friendly Staff

Friendly Staff, Good Location
We stayed at the Koto Hotel for four nights in total. We also booked a 3 day trip to Sapa via the hotel and also a trip to Halong Bay. Some aspects of the trip were exactly as we had hoped but when we reported that to the Hotel they were very apologetic and provided some discount. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are ok for what you pay for. A slight smell of damp but nothing to complain about.

Convenient location, travel booking service.
Staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are quite large and have ensuite with hot showers, and fridge. Breakfast of fruit, eggs, noodles, rice and toast is included. Hot water for tea/coffee is available. Free internet access and wifi.

Very helpfull staff
Shame hotel is down a dingy alley and you had to go over road to another hotel for breakfast, Ok for overnight stay and they did look after our bags when we went off to Halong Bay,they helped us with our onward train booking and even came to make sure we got on the right train, also let us use shower room before we travelled on so really helpfull.Lovely friendly staff.

Decent Hotel for the Price

This hotel is clean and quiet. Not exceptionally clean but pass for me. It's kind of in the back of an alley but it is quiet. The staff was helpful but not as efficient in their service. I just wish the owner put a little money in re-decorating the place with modern furniture then that would put this place in a better position
Restaurant Tip: Go to the left of the hotel about 5-7 minutes walk, look for Pho Cam Chi or Pho Am Thuc, there are plenty of foods and a little European Bar/Restaurant in there.

Small, nice rooms and great service

The rools are very clean, light and well furnished. Staff very helpful.
i am really torn in writing this. the hotel was so good (at that price) that i really do not want others to "find" it. and yet the staff were so good they deserve to succeed. it is a small hostel, but the rooms were very clean with antique (mock?) vietnamese furniture. there are zero ammenities, but with all the great food outside, who cares. breakfast at a neighbouring joint hostel is sparten but sufficient. it is likely to benefit budget travellers most. if you want something more substantial, there are a couple of pastry/sandwich shops within 5 minutes walk. and of course, the famous hanoi baguette stuffed sandwich stalls are not so far away. although i was here as a tourist, the hostel would suit a budget conscious businessman who did not have to entertain in his hotel. the free broadband ensures that one can keep in regular contact with the office, although there is no business service centre.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Watch out for the taxis. The overwhelming bulk were OK, but there were sufficient scammers to justify watching the meter. If it is jumping too fast, just stop the car and get out.

Lovely hotel, great service, very friendly

Friendly and value for money
I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel, good big rooms, a/c very cold, staff very attentive and friendly, nothing stolen from room, wifi very fast, tv with about a million channels with about 20 in English, usual vietnamese concrete mattress (no wonder they have such good posture), big bed. Staff helped me with my vietname language lessons and the receptionists arranged for a friend who is a muso to help me with understanding vietnamese songs on the harmonica.Location is down an alley but not dangerous or intimidating. Close to everything and easy to find again when lost. A/c packed up one day and was fixed very quickly and in the meantime a fan was brought up to the room. Raw bacon for breaky was the only downside, but Vietnamese think since the bacon is smoked it doesn't need to be cooked. Plenty of food at breaky and no problems with second helpings. Excellent value for money and probably the best of about 7 different hotels I've stayed in in Hanoi.
