Beautiful setting

The view from my upstairs balcony was exquisite
3.7
Absolutely lovely to sit outside on my balcony and see the volcano, the rice fields and the sun rising. There was a fair bit of building going on in the neighbourhood... so a bit noisey but I was usually out and about during the day. I don't ride a motorbike so walked the distance into Ubud. This was good for me, but a fair hike especially in the rain. Locals were able to tell me how to keep safe when walking and the rabid dogs approached. Breakfast was a bit of a let down... cold omelette and only condensed milk to go with the coffee. I am pretty hungry in the morning and wake early.. so waited patiently. I learned how to manage the sparks and flames that came from the electric plug and was able to still use my laptop even though it was live and I was getting electric shocks from it. I was able to rinse and dry the exceptionally smelly towel that I was given, and I did have enough of my own paper tissues to use as the loo paper was not replaced when empty. A curious way to have my first experience 'off the beaten track' but it would have been helpful for my hostess to have been able to speak some english. We go some places once... and this was one of them.

Nice Villa

Great room, great bathroom

The Villa is really nice. The room is spacious, so is the bathroom. We got the bathroom with jacuzzi in it. The bed is large, the balcony is nice. Far from crowded, so we can get fresh air with a nice sound of ducks quacking from the ricefield behind our villa. Breakfast is intercontinental, but enough to make me full. The staff is so helpfull, especially the manager, she service us with smile. She have the ceramic shop in front of this villa. The only minus is the parking area, which is on a narrow alley, so it's kinda hard for me who use a car. But i think that's not a big problem for this nice villa

well furnitured nice room with rice field view of the balcony. Quiet place. However, as a result there are mosquitoes and ants. The hotel people is helpful. But it is a little far from the ubud center which means each time you need to take a taxi. And the taxi is not by meters in ubud area.

My room was spacious and located in the first level, so I could enjoy the view of the village life and padi fields around the hotel. Serene and peaceful. The hotel is not big, but very neat and well decorated. I love it!
Ricardo M. Families with young children Portugal, April 9, 2012
Rooms are nice but service doesn't match

The rooms are spacious and I was located near the swiming pool which was great
5
the location isn't so great and the hotel instead of helping takes advantage of people by asking for each trip an average of 75% more of the normal value. that is actually bad as we expect the hotel staff to be our "friends". moreover, if you don't give a clear sign that you want your room clean it won't happen.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Rent a car because it is the best way for travelling around Ubud and see the amazing rice terraces and the beautiful handicraft that you can find everywhere. But don't stop in shops that say "souvenirs" because the handicraft sold there is of bad quality and usually not so attractive.

horrible place to stay

cheap

Analysis of the guesthouse itself:- Drinking water not readily available -The description of Kubu Merta specifically said "unlimited drinking water". One early morning, we asked for drinking water, but they ran out. We sort of thought it was understandable because we asked them at 6am in the morning. On that same day, we asked them for drinking water again when we came back from our day trip as we thought "hey they had a whole day to get more drinking water", but hey said they ran out, again. Drinking water is pretty fairly priced in Ubud. We could have easily went to a corner store for it, but rules are rules, if it says "unlimited drinking water", we had to insist for our drinking water. It felt awkward when we have to demand for something as simple as drinking water.- Free WiFi regularly went down. We had to call the front desk to restart the router.- Quite noisy at night with nearby dogs barking, despite being in the quiet countryside (not their fault but not quite what a newly wed couple would be hoping for)- Breakfast was not good. Bland and not fresh. Ubud town has amazing food. Actually, Ubud is quite famous for its food. It is not like Cuba where food is generally bland, then it is acceptable that food is bland at a hotel/resort. That's why we felt the breakfast at Kubu Merta was pretty disappointing.Long story short, this place is not too bad because the price is fair and the staff are trying their best. But if you are looking for a reliable place to stay, look elsewhere! And if you do decide to stay at this place, don't book your excursions with them. Feel free to discuss what you want to do in Bali with them, but don't actually pay them to book it for you. You are way better off finding a deal in Ubud town.We are writing this on our last night's stay. And we are pretty ready to get out of Kubu Merta and never return. I
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: #1: House manager did not provide written agreement regarding the price and activities for the day trips. Price and activities were altered after the fact.- When we agreed on having the house manager, Dian, book the trips for us on the phone, she said we will be taking a boat ride out for snorkeling. But she texted us the night before our snorkeling trip that snorkeling will be off the shore. The snorkeling experience was still beautiful off the shore, but it just doesn't seem right that she changed things after the fact.- At the end of our last day of excursion, the driver's price changed from 800,000 Indonesian Rupiah "for the day" to "per person".  That means we paid close to $180US for a driver to drive us to Tulamben snorkeling with equipment, a guide and bad lunch, Tirtagangga (where we had to pay our own entrance fees) and Blue Lagoon. Hold on! Why are we paying a driver driving us for 10 hours with that much money!? We later found out that a typical going rate for a driver is about $40-50US if you book on your own in Ubud. We could have booked a guide, got better lunch and rented equipment as well as getting a driver for way cheaper than what we ended up paying. Well that is just great because we have now overspent, and my wife is super upset because she thought we could trust the house manager. My wife specifically told Dian that we are on a budget before we even started planning things with Dian. We would have never agreed to pay a one day excursion of $180 for the two of us. My wife's recollection of the agreement was all prices were quoted for the day. As it should be and as it was for the first day where it was 300,000 Indonesian Rupiah going to Monkey Forest, Tanah Lot, Ubud for dinner (we paid the dinner), and back to Kubu Merta. My recollection was the first and last days were quoted for the day, and the 2nd day was per person. For your info, on our 2nd day trip, we paid 600,000 IR per person for the driver going to Batur Mountain for sunrise
