Brilliant Game drives and lodge, unforgetable

The Ranger and Trackers are extremely competent, lodge very special
We stayed for 4 nights and had the time of our lives at Kwandwe. The lodge is extremely comfortable, great food and service and rooms are luxurious. We loved the spaceousness, the outdoor shower (there is also a luxury bath with indoor shower if you prefer). The lodge is a lovely size so guests are made to feel very special and not just another customer, you build up a rapport with service staff But the rangers and trackers were absolutely superb, clearly very well trained and experienced. In our 4 days we were fortunate to track the Big 5, with some multiple and close sightings but we saw so very much more all interstingly interpreted by our ranger, Doc

Beautiful rooms nice hotel

Great deluxe rooms, nice staff, big game
This place was luxurious and beautiful. It was a great option as we didn't have time for game drives elsewhere in South Africa (though of course I presume the safari would be better elsewhere). That said we saww Rhino, Elephant, Lions, etc. and also cheetah.

A safari lodge in idyllic surroundings

Service, food, accommodation and game drives were all equally excellent
made to feel exceptionally welcome from the moment of being greeted on arrival. lodge perfectly appointed, private plunge pool was a perfect touch for hot days. exceptionally comfortable beds and all necessary room amenities provided. all inclusive f&b was outstanding for choice and quality; perfect to be able to sample so many local dishes. with three meals a day plus afternoon tea and sundowners while out on the game drive, the only downside was there was so much food that without a tread mill on site we were permanently full..... game drives were personally oriented, informative and with blankets and water proofs provided during cool or wet weather all needs are perfectly catered for. will be returning without doubt.

What's nearby? / Directions

From Port Elizabeth to Kwandwe Private Game Reserve:
From Port Elizabeth, travel eastwards along the N2 towards Grahamstown. Travel past Grahamstown and the Settlers Monument, ignoring the ‘Beaufort Street’ and ‘R67 Port Alfred’ turn-offs. A few kilometers past Grahamstown turn left onto the road at the ‘R67 Fort Beaufort’. It should be approximately 10km between the Settlers Monument and the Fort Beaufort Road turn-offs. Wind you way through the Ecca Pass for approximately 19km. On your right you will see a large sign indication ‘The Great Fish River Reserve’. Turn left onto the gravel road opposite this sign. There are two smaller signs on the left marked ‘Kwandwe’ and ‘Kranzdrift’. Travel about 5km to reach the Kwandwe gate, and continue straight along that road for a further 6km. The first house on the left is Heatherton Towers Reception area, where you will check-in and leave your car. You will then be transferred to Great Fish River Lodge, Ecca Lodge, Uplands Homestead or Melton Manor, which is between 15-30 minutes’ drive away.
