The Craven Lounge offers a home away from home environment where guests can relax with a newspaper, whilst enjoying cup of tea or coffee. Aptly named after Daniël Hartman Craven, who was arguably South Africa's best-known rugby administrator, the Craven Lounge is a true representation of South African heritage. Daniël Hartman Craven coached the Springboks between 1949 and 1956 and became one of the most successful Springbok coaches of all time. The elegant hotel lounge seats 20 people and features genuine antiques, a grand piano, a roaring fireplace and rugby memorabilia hanging on the walls. Most guests opt to end their evenings by indulging in a choice of coffees and cognacs served in the elegant Craven Lounge.
The Governors Hall Restaurant opens onto the private and exclusive Lady Anne Courtyard, where breakfast, lunch and evening drinks can be enjoyed. The Lady Anne Courtyard is an elegant Mediterranean-styled courtyard complete with a gravelled terrace, wrought iron seating and colonial canvas umbrellas. Cocktail events are able to flow into the Lady Anne Courtyard, which can be covered by a Bedouin tent. The courtyard is named after Lady Anne Barnard who was an accomplished artist in the 18th and 19th centuries. Her works include oil paintings and drawings. She spent five years in Cape Town, which although brief, had a significant impact on the cultural and social life of the time.
