The Dinner was amazing, the breakfasts are beautifully done and the grounds are amazing!
Beautiful location, so much history. The food (both dinner and breakfast) was excellent. The shared bathroom and small bed (a double) was a small pain but considering we were staying in a restored 19th century stable you can't complain too much! Overall I loved our stay and would definitely come back if we travelled back to Dunedin.

Breathtaking location, extremely good value

Location, location, location - the views are magnificent
The room in the lodge had an amazing view and was extremely comfortable, breakfast in the stables was welcoming and friendly. We felt it extremely good value for money as the room cost included hot breakfast for us both and access to the castle and its gardens which visitors have to pay around $29 per adult for. It is 15-20 minutes from town but well worth the drive. If you don't want the 3 course dinner meal option there is a basic room service menu which means you don't have to drive back into town for meals if you don't wish to. I would love to return and do some of the many walks around the surrounding area. We love it here.

Educational, interesting & beautiful

Dinner in the castle, breaky in the stables & ballroom cafe
Shame about the weather but still beautiful. Worth spending the night & eating in the castle. A must see if Dunedin

below average room, not worth the money

The Castle experience
Below Average room, not worth the money Stayed at the stables, end room, walls were paper thin and we easily heard the couple next door and the guys snoring all night. The end room had the roof angle as part of the room, very easy to hit your head... Bed was a double bed, so my feet hung over the end. However the staff were friendly

Larnach Castle Review

Castle itself, Gardens and Location
The place was amazing, however we were unlucky to have booked the dinner in the castle the night we stayed and so had everyone it seems as they had overbooked. They appeared understaffed and could not serve the dinner in the room that was promised. We were broken up into two groups unsuccessfully. 94% of the group did not speak English in our group which made for an uncomfortable evening with two of the non speaking group being seated in the middle of the English speaking group. The staff were unable to service both rooms successfully and seemed very flustered. I wouldn't eat there again. Apart from this the ambience of the castle itself made up for everything. I would recommend but think you should check the numbers for dining and make sure you are seated in the room promised.

Unique accomodations

History, facility, staff
Unique designe but not all that practical for a guest. Funny shaped room. Bathrooms and toilets public. No view. Very good breakfast, and very friendly staff. The whole concept of staying in a castle works well.
