Good respects are nice breakfast,hospitality staff, and generally good room conditions.Not so good points, first, the location is not quite convenient, that is why the hotel offers a one-way tuk-tuk to BTS everyday. Also the wifi is not so strong in room as in lobby. I have to go to the lobby sometimes for iinternet. If u want to live a little far from down-town for quite sleep,this would be a good choice.

Feeling like a local at this great b&b

Very nice B&b in an upcoming neighborhood on the west side of the river. You feel indeed very local there! Close to BTS, free tuktuk a day or you can walk through nice little streets. Small room, but clean, new and modern. Good breakfast with fresh fruit and fresh orange juice. If you don't like Asian, just ask for eggs. And like every one else is saying; great staff! We would definitely recommend to friends.

This was the end of two weeks in Thailand and was a restful oasis. One young man on the staff in particular, went out of his way to help us with tips on local transport that made each outing go so smoothly. Starting with the quaintly themed rooms, delicious local breakfast, helpful guidance with ideas of activities that weren't 'touristy' it was like staying at a friends home. Great local map provided, easy to get to train or riverboat so enough to keep you busy.

You're amongst the locals here. The staff was very attentive and helpful. You get one free tuk-tuk for the day and you'll probably need it - it's probably a mile to the central river ferry terminal. OK if you don't mind walking. Room was nice. We enjoyed our stay. They even packed us sandwiches for our early morning flight to Chiang Mai.

Wonderful welcome to thailand

sometimes staff are so personable that you want to return to a place just to visit with them again. focal local is one of those places. besides the personal attention provided by karan, his father and family, this b and b offers a very interesting location in an ethnic neighborhood just a ferry ride away from downtown. a fascinating night market a short walk away; we're sorry we were so inexperienced that we were afraid to try the grilled chicken, which so far seems the freshest we've seen anywhere in thailand
or laos. karan recommended a traditional thai restaurant that served some of the most flavourful food of our trip, and even wrote out some interesting dishes in thai to help with our ordering.
disadvantages: room a bit small and hotel right on crowded street, no balcony, but extreme cleanliness and positive features more than make up for it.
Restaurant Tip:
if you like ethnic, go to the Thai restaurant down the street, the one with one half air con

Small clean rooms with great customer service

At first impression we were not overjoyed with the location, but it grew on us. Not much in the adjacent area but good transport connections nearby. If you are looking for all night parties, I'd stay elsewhere, but as a base for daytime exploration it's great.
Breakfast is a choice between western or Thai. We stuck with Thai and it was reall good, sort of different having chicken fried rice, or sweet and sour for breakfast but all of Asia can't be wrong and we really enjoyed it.
Restaurant Tip:
Riverside resteraunt is nearby and some of the best food we had in Bangkok.
Night time mall type shopping and food at the Asiatic has a dedicated ferry service from the central pier.

Great little place with a nice feel

at first we received mixed feelings about this place as we checked in and were met by a girl who was sitting at reception watching movies, who was not interested to serve us at all. no greeting, no welcome, nothing. we thought we made a big mistake booking our stay here, but it all changed when we first met karan. i believe karan is the owner of this bed and breakfast and was extremely welcoming and caring and always greeted us with a smile and made sure everything was going well with our stay and that we were having a good day. from there on in, we really enjoyed the rest of the stay.
the breakfasts were great! it was a set menu of a traditional thai dish with fruits and drinks. the thai dish would get changed every day so you were never eating the same thing twice. all the dishes we tried were very tasty.
the rooms were nice and certainly did the job and the layout of the common area was very modern and clean and had all the facilities you needed.
the location was a bit off from all the tourist attractions in bangkok, but it is still very easy to get to with the free tuktuk karan can organize for you to the nearest skytrain or ferry pier.

Focal Local is a lovely little bed and breakfast place off the beaten track, but with easy access to transport into the centre of Bangkok. They provide one free tuk-tuk ride a day to the ferry or sky train station, but you can also walk to both of these in about 10 minutes. There are lots of local places to eat on the main street round the corner from the guest house where the food is really good. As the guest house is down a side street it is pretty quiet, although the traffic does start up at about 6 am. The staff are really friendly and very helpful. They provide city maps and are happy to discuss places to visit and will organise taxis for you. The breakfast is different every day and is really good with fresh juice and fruit and a traditional Thai main e.g. Rice/ noodles with shrimp/meat. Our room on the ground floor was quite small and overlooked an alley, so no great views!! However the air con and free Wifi worked really well. There is also free Internet access in the foyer. Overall, I would definitely recommend Focal Local.
