Nice hotel but didn't live up to expectations.
growing up in Birmingham, this hotel is a local institution and regarded as very 'posh'. It has many merits-a lovely building, well maintained and right in the heart of the city (literally next to the station). Although the staff were wonderful on one day-polite, helpful and friendly-when we arrived the staff member who checked us in was quite artificial in conversation, very abrupt and ignored us for the next day as we walked past the desk. One night all the fire alarms went off-we followed the evacuation route to a back alley! No one from the hotel checked we were OK and there was much confusion -we were sent back in with alarms still ringing, then evacuated a second time…the staff seemed ill prepared for an emergency and did not clearly communicate what was happening. Not very nice at 1 am! Didn't eat at the hotel as veggie options were unimaginative. We would not stay here again for the money charged but if you don't have dietary restrictions and want to be in a lovely building in the heart of town, it is still a fair option.

Fantastic location next to the train station and city centre - cannot be beaten! Lovely staff and we got a great deal with breakfast. Word of warning - the standard double bed is small - upgrade to something bigger. I am over 6ft and there wasn't much space for my girlfriend!

Hotel With Character
Overlooking New St, this historic hotel has character and a great location if travelling by train. View from restaurant is great though some of the rooms overlook miscellaneous infrastructure. Room was good with excellent large bed.

Burlington Birmingham
Location right beside the station is fantastic. Lovely old building which is clean and well maintained. Nice bathroom with Arran Aromatics toiletaries.
Executive single room was very small - hardly room to open my full sized suitcase. Ok for 1 night stop over. Room very cold although radiators did come on. All the ameneties though - kettle, iron, bottled water... and crean. Would book a larger room if returning. Breakfast nice but very slow - long wait for cooked plate- unexpected as usually breakfast is quick in a city hotel as people need to get on.

Ideal Spot
Lovely hotel right in the centre of Birmingham. Rooms were spacious and clean. Beautifully decorated. On our first night we were on the third floor and were woken at 7am by continual footsteps above. Turned out there were offices above us . We were then moved to floor 5 . The room was even more spacious and apart from a little bit of street noise which is to be expected in the city centre, it was perfect. Staff were friendly and helpful especially on reception. We got a good deal through Agoda and would definitely stay here again if we got similar.
