Located on Karon Beach, this guest house is mere steps from the water. Resting between the popular Patong, and the quieter Kata Beach, guests can easily make way to either with a shirt tuk-tuk ride. The island is known for its excellent dive sites as well as sailing, and for those who prefer to stay on land there are some spectacular golf courses and spas to explore. Travelers to Thailand's largest island, should also try to catch some of the cultural shows on offer, a popular one being Phuket Fantasea. Malai House includes a restaurant and lounge bar on site, but you will find no shortage of either around the hotel either. A comfortable option on the second most popular beach in Phuket, Malai House is a reasonable choice. Located on Karon Beach, this guest house is mere steps from the water. great place, great location (12 seconds from the beach), comfy room. You get to use the pool and gym of the sugar palm hotel, which is great.

This place is under renovation!

lovely staff
This hotel is currently under renovation and I dont quite understand why they would rent out rooms at all under these circumstances. It is extremely loud (we`re talking chainsaw loud), the pool is closed and the hotel feels like a ghosttown. Oh yeah and my boyfriend saw a rat running down the corridor. The decor of the rooms is colourful and contemporary and the room itself seemed very clean. The staff is forthcoming and friendly. They upgraded us to another hoetel the second day. This hotel will probably be quite alright, once the renovations are over, but DONT GO THERE NOW. seriously.

Go, when the renovations are done

If you, by mistake, should book this hotel while its still being renovated make sure to be upgraded to one of the sister hotels.

Good budget hotel

Big room and friendly staff
We stayed for a week.  We wanted to book the Sugarpalm but somehow the price seemed wrong (suddenly gone up so much) so we booked Malai instead.  But we were told that we are not able  to use the swimming pool as it was under renovation. (sugarpalm hotel was under renovation) As the pool is the most important part of my holiday I was really disappointed.  But then, we knew that there is another sugarpalm in Kata beach, we asked them if we could use the pool there then they said Yes.  So, we took a bus(song tae woo) every morning to Kata beach and spend time at Sugarpalm.  Good- Room was a bit old but big and clean.  Free wife and worked well.  They supply 1xcoke and 1x beer with 2bottles of water for free, everyday.  Staffs were very friendly, greeting with smiles.  There is a night market 5min away for every Tues and Sat.   You can buy fruits and foods for the lower price.  Bad- No English movie channels avail so it could be boring if you have no movies downloaded on your own laptop.  Tip-  If you want to go to Phuket town or central festival shopping mall but want to save money on taxi or not comfortable with renting a bike then catch the bus from the same side of road.  The bus( it called Song Tae Woo) departs from the Kata beach station every 30min and only 30 baht to travel. (Last one departs at 4:40pm) Wait for the big "Blue truck(looks like)" which coming towards very slowly and it has "Phuket Town" written on the top.  You just wave your arm then tell the driver where you want to go.  To Kata beach, do the same but just cross the road. (Last one departs from Phuket town at 6pm)
Restaurant Tip: There is a restaurant called "Red onion" only a few min away.  Very good food and good priced.  Always busy so if you go after 7:30pm, you may have to wait.
