Lovely View

View, sunsets and beach
It was a great location, 2 minutes from the main area but in its own little quiet space. We watched the sunset every night and it was spectacular each time. Our bungalow was right on the beach with a great view. The staff could be more organised but we're very pleasant.

A reminder about safety standards

nice view of the end of the beach
To be fair this was not a usual story but all said ... first of all the bungalows are in a pretty good location but once you arrive as another reviewer mentioned the tuk tuk will not deliver you to the doorstep so you need to schlep your gear up some serious terrain - not good if you are pulling a wheeled carry-on. Then when we got to the desk and got our key we needed to navigate steep concrete steps to our bunglaow which was right on the water so we thought ok, worth it. We had been travelling so decided just to have a bite at the restaurant. We ordered but after a while it was clear they had not understood our order and we just had our soft drinks. At at abut 2am we woke up to noise outside. Bungalow 2 across from us was on fire. An electrical fire had started in the roof - all the guests helped the staff in a fire brigade to extinguish the flames but the fire was persistent. Eventually the fire trucks arrived but remember the access and the concrete steps? This has of course, made me much more aware of things like wiring. But where the hotel went wrong was in customer care. There was no compensation to guests, no real acknowledgement of what had happened. The guests in the burning bungalow were only able to manage because their friends were also staying at the hotel?

Nice staff, but awful beach and dirty rooms.
The staff was very nice, but this place was very old and dirty. There was mouse droppings all over the bedside table and the bathroom had not been cleaned. It has dirty old used razors and used soap in the bathroom. We were very disappointed with this place. The beach is awful and not worth swimming at. I feel bad about this review because the staff was nice and they did the best they could, but this place structurally has seen better days.

Over prices

Right on the beach
Way over priced. Sadly we moved hotels. I think it would've been great 3-5 years ago. Haven't kept up the hotel. Staff was very very nice. If they lower their prices to make it backpacker friendly I think it would become popular again.

Lovely Place run by the sweetest family

Staff, location, food
Malibu is a lovely gem that takes you away from the madness of Serendipity beach. The best part for us was how sweet the family running it was to us when we stayed there. Chen is the manager - his mother and wife do the cooking (which was the best we had during our stay), his father drives the tuk-tuk (yes, it is a short ride to the town, but Chen's father was our personal chauffeur the entire time! He was so sweetest man - full of smiles, we loved him so much!), and he does so much for the property. They were all so nice to us during our stay. Chen's english is great, he was able to answer all of our questions easily. The location is awesome - little bungalows about a private (small) beach. Amazing views. I would recommend getting a room with a/c if you can afford it - it makes the stay much easier. Quick walk to the beautiful Sokra beach too. We did an amazing boat tour through Sun Tours to Koh Rong that I wouldn't miss either. Overall it was a great stay and we were sad to leave! Chen if you are reading this, I could not find you on Facebook - please search for me with my name! Sharon :)

NOT three star, for sure

ok view
The small beach under the hotel is ok enough, but not possible to swim there because of rocks. Very old and 'rural' style, not at all what one expects from three stars. Red stains on sheets, hope it was just stains where the colour is impossible to remove. Noone helping with luggage, even though there are stairs everywhere, and a road up there where no car can drive. Very expensive dining. 2$ soda can from minibar is doyble price than all other hotels in cambodia i'va stayed. 3$ shakes are three times price then expensive beach bars. Food is ok, nothing to write home about - and extremely expensive compared to resorts with way more luxury. Staff very eager to help you book trips to tge islands, for 20$. All other places i found these trips including breakfast, bbq-lunch, snorkling gear and pickup/ delivery to your hotel.
