An overpriced bed and breakfast in Santa Teresa

lovely small garden with pool
Upon our arrival we doubt about the correct location since there is no door sign with the name Hotel Mama Ruisa 5 stars...It a nice privately owned family villa no more than an overpriced bed and breakfast ( breakfast is not included and is charged 30 brl....) Tired room furniture , old and loud A/C system , overpriced minibar ( small bottle of water charged 6 brl.) , upon check in out i was not presented a printed bill nor a credit card receipt provided only after requesting for the matters. both receptionist and owner over reacted at my questions about billing details by raising their voice and attitude. this was our worse experience during 5 weeks holidays in beautiful Brazil

Loved Mama Ruisa

The hotel was very beautiful- great decor, wonderful views, hugh room and wonderful terrace.
The hotel itself is so very lovely. The decor is perfect, modern, yet warm and inviting. Our room was the Josephine Baker room and it was wonderful, very large with high ceilings and a lovely terrace where breakfast was served. The staff is very helpful in making plans and recommendations. They could not be nicer. I highly suggest you stay here if you are going to Rio.
Shopping Tip: There are some great shops in Santa Teresa for handcrafted and Brazilian made items- artwork as well as clothing and jewelry. Also- I highly suggest the H.Stern jewelry store headquarters tour- facsinating and everyone is very nice.

Mama Ruisa

Small exclusive villa
Small, exclusive, almost hidden mansion uphill in trendy neighborhood. Helpful service, somewhat charming rooms, nice views, especially from public foyer and gardens. However, not full service. No room safe. Windows didn't lock, dogs were on property, didn't have sense of security. No do not disturb sign, no door to bathroom area (only shower), no large trash bin. Nice pool. But probably not worth the money.
