Great exterior lacking on the inside

The surroundings, the spa treatment and not much else
The surroundings of the mansion are extremely nice and very pleasant to walk around. However the rooms have a lot to make up if they want to be a real 5 star hotel. Whilst the rooms are of a generous size the furnishings were very worn and furniture something out off ikea. The Venetian blinds were either missing cords or where there were cords they did not allow the shades to be lifted or adjusted. The TV reception was atrocious with no more than 4-5 channels working correctly and the large majority either not working at all or so poor that it was unwatchable. Room service selection was almost nonexistent and after 9pm all you could get was fries. ( and this is 5 star!!) The service at reception was ok with all the normal niceties. However, We spent two nights at the mansion after our wedding (that was not held at the mansion). It was very clear the the priority of service, setting etc for things like breakfast was given to large group wedding bookings and a single couple took back seat. The spa staff and service were great but not the main hotel service. We will not be going back.

Appears to be some management issues

Location , rose garden and nearby winery, staff pleasant but run off their feet
Enjoyed our stay the surrounding areas are beautiful. Disappointed at the lack of cleanliness floors and particularly swimming pool, steps slimy and slippery lots of scum around tiles at water edge.

Pleasant stay

Main mansion is nice to visit, it is close to Werribee zoo and not too far from melbourne
Pleasant stay for one night, room however seems a bit small, otherwise nice hotel good location and nice comfortable surrounding

Lovely quiet hotel in the Country - not quite 5*

Quiet, Nice Spa, beautiful building
We stayed in the hotel for one night only. Lovely building and quiet location. The Room facilities and interiors, and the restaurant staff and food, were definitely not up to 5* compared with others in Melbourne and internationally. I have paid similar to stay at Crown. I would stay here for a night again but only with a reduced tariff. Desk staff were very good.

There for a wedding

The wedding had accomodation on site
This property is massive and beautiful and was great for my cousins wedding, the room although smallish was well appointed although the bathroom privacy was limited and prob not good for new couples... the grounds were great and is well worth checking out.

critical review

rose garden. museum. gardens.
I was really looking forward to an exquisite weekend. I was disappointed in the dining area. breakfast no knives for toast, no butter for toast, no sugar for cereal. Our room lacked two cusp for coffee, TV did not work and staff had to come and fix. no fly wire on windows. on date of departure attended at the dining room at 0655hrs as we had to get to the airport. we were told doesn't open until 0700 but would be ten minutes after that. we could have at least been allowed in and had a cuppa while we waited. no shuttle from airport. grounds were noticed to have weeds along building and pathways overgrown. the overgrowth that had been treated with roundup was still left lying. gave an impression of unkempt.
