Meerendal Boutique Hotel Cape Town - Food, drink and entertainment Meerendal Wine Selections
Meerendal is situated on the cool southeasterly slopes of the Tygerberg Hills near Durbanville, a mere fifteen kilometers from the cold Atlantic Ocean to the west and twenty minutes from the city center of Cape Town. The unique pattern of the cool summer winds that blow through these hills ensures healthy grapes of great character. The rich red Meerendal soil has a heavy clay base, resulting in excellent water retention right through the summer months. Although the annual rainfall on the estate is a mere 550mm, there is no need for irrigation due to heavy dewfalls and water retentive properties of the soil. Cellar master Liza Goodwin coaxes award winning wines from hand tended vineyards. These noble varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinotage, Shiraz, Merlot and Pinot Noir.
Meerendal Boutique Hotel Cape Town - Food, drink and entertainment Wine Tasting and Sales
Visit the Meerendal Wine Estate and experience the flavour of a 300-year-old farm. Awaken your senses. Drink up the hue and viscosity. Know what it takes to make a noble wine and then savour the experience over lunch. Tutored tastings can be arranged and are hosted by either Liza Goodman, Meerendal's resident Cellar Master or renowned Cape Wine Master, Bennie Howard. The Meerendal heritage dates back to 1702 with some of the oldest Pinotage vineyards in South Africa. Today the vineyards yield a wide range of speciality and award winning wines prized for their Meerendal quality and flavour.
Meerendal Boutique Hotel Cape Town - Food, drink and entertainment Crown Restaurant
At the time of the new owner taking over, a strategy was formulated to implement Food and Wine on the Estate as its main focus, hence the slogan - “The Home of Food and Wine”. The Meerendal wines are elegant fruit driven wines ideally suited for matching the excellent cuisine that you can expect at the farm.

Staff, room, location
Fantastic. Was sad to stay only two days. Loved the stay and will definitely recommend this to others.

Mediocre hotel

food, surroundings, wine
Arriving at the hotel, we found out our room was not in the main building but next to it and we were not informed of this. Check in took less than a minute and nothing was explained. We found out later we needed coupons for breakfast, although it was included, and we ended up paying for breakfast. The TV and the telephone didn't work. Although we put a “do not disturb” sign on the door, we found the cleaners using the backdoor to enter after we went out for a short while. Location is good, peaceful and away from the city and the food at the restaurant is excellent.

More like a guest house than polished hotel.

Pretty farm. Nice linen. Aircon
Its inconvenient for business. Very dark road approach at night. Didn't like outside room- one books because of the old beautiful house. Restaurant disconnected from house. May be nice if you have a lot more time than I had.
Victor D. Business travelers South Africa, October 25, 2014

Country setting near the city

Excellent clean hotel

cleanliness, excellent staff, picturesque surroundings
Was one of the best hotels we've ever stayed at. Staff were excellent, welcoming and very attentive to any need. A beautifully restored hotel with a cozy nightly fireplace to relax around with. A beautiful setting away from the hustle and bustle of the city but close enough to be in it in a short time.
Deter G. Couples United Kingdom, January 2, 2014
Beautiful wine estate, brilliant friendly staff

Location in a wine estate with stunning grounds, awesome friendly staff, high quality with a homely feel and great room size
Amazing stay. Made to feel very much at home and as part of the family. The wine tasting is highly recommended! Great hotel and very good value being a short drive outside of the city.
Andre S. Couples South Africa, September 29, 2013
Most enjoyable

Location, scenic, tranquility
No serious issue, staff cold have provided Nespresso coffee on request, they have a machine available in room but no pods?
