On the whole Good
Room a bit tatty, Food should of scored 5 My 7 guests and I were impressed by the quality of the food in the evening on Friday, but not by the lack of table clothes, and the plastic menus. Breakfast on Friday was marred by scrambelled egg with a skin on the top,and fried eggs with hard yolkes. I know I was late down at 0845 but thats not an excuse. Saturday and Sunday it was good with a chef paying attention to the food often. Reception was top class, especially the small blond with glasses who was patient and efficient,I wanted to take her home with me!!!!!! I was initially put off in the room by a bed valance which did not cover the bed underneath, and failed to do this through out my stay, hence tatty. Please put a map showing the way to you car park on line, or let people drive through the arch. I lived in Southampton for the first 21 years of my life, and knew this entrance, but ended up driving around in circles trying to find the way in. You have a way to go though to be as good as the Mercure at Gare du Nord.

Value for money
Good location, near cruise terminal, many restaurants near by.
I stayed there for one night. I do not have any comment.

Excellent location
The location is close to cruise ship terminals, and the local history of the hotel and of Southampton as within the walls of the old medievil city.
Our stay was excellent. Room was warm without air conditioning, just a fan, however the building is an old historic building and within the walls of the old city I would think it is likely within what one should expect within these walls. The staff at the hotel were just great and any request was answered promptly. The service is worth the stay. We have stayed here before and if in Southampton likely will stay here again.

A brief overnight stay
Very convenient for the shopping in the high street, nice and comfortable feel to the hotel, rooms as expected for a local English town given the price, very very attentive staff, providing a lasting sense of service to their clients.
I can't think of any that spring to mind. Perhaps the rooms could do with a little modernisation, but the old feel to the place gives the hotel it's character.
It's not a 5 star hotel with all the mod cons you would expect, but this hotel is not pretending to be anything other than a jolly nice place to stay for a night or two whilst passing through. Recommend for staying a night or two before going on a Cruise, or moving onto other parts of England.
