Nice and Cozy.
Location, atmosphere, price.
We had a pleasant stay at Michael's place. This is a charming little guesthouse with a lot of character. The personnel is welcoming and helpful and speaks very good English. We were in Beijing in the middle of an extreme cold wave but still had a warm room to come back to at the end of the day, something that was highly appreciated. The metro is only a 5-10 minutes walk and easily gives you access to all major interesting sites. The hotel maintains a 24 hours reception desk, so there is no worry if you arrive late at night. Just make sure that you have the name and address of the place written in Chinese characters if arriving by taxi. We recommend this place.

Great location, comfortable rooms, friendly staff
Proximity to BNU and subway, nice design and comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff.
We chose this hotel because we were attending a conference at BNU nearby - it was within easy walking distance and had good reviews. The hotel is nice and looks like the photos. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast was also fine (fruit, toast, eggs, yogurt and coffee/tea). The staff was very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed the neighborhood and there were lots of great restaurants nearby. We also made use of the tour guide service offered to go visit the Great Wall. It was inexpensive, easy, and enjoyable to do. The wifi was not effective in the rooms - only really able to use it in the common area - which had comfortable couches, etc. So it was fine - but not great. The only negative experience we had was on the last night of a 6 night stay - the hotel informed us at 6pm that the neighborhood would lose electricity from 5:30am until 8:30pm the next day. They provided us with two candles and a lighter. This is fine (minus the electricity for wifi and hot water for showers) - but the problem we had with this was that the hotel was aware in advance (as confirmed by our Chinese speaking colleague with staff) but they did not warn customers in advance. Had they done so, we may have opted for a different hotel on the last night. In addition, many travelers arrived that morning with no information about this in advance - all coming from far distances and no access to hot water for showers or electricity for their communication devices. This seemed somewhat dishonest to us. Overall we enjoyed the stay - but it was tarnished a bit by this news on the last night and the knowledge that had we been told, we could have avoided it.

Staying was a true pleasure.
Comfortable, beautifully decorated, friendly staff
If I come back to Beijing, I'll definitely be staying at Michael's House again. From the moment I arrived (at 3am!) I was made to feel welcome. The courtyard is a wonderful atmosphere to relax in after a long day on your feet sightseeing and I found a lot of the other guests very friendly. it is quite a walk to the train station on tired feet, but I loved being in a more local area rather than stuck in a hotel hotspot.

Personal oasis in a HUGE city
The staff, the beautiful rooms, the quiet
Excellent! The staff was very professional, helpful and friendly. The hotel was a lovely, quiet place to come back to after a long day of sight seeing. The rooms were all beautifully decorated and clean. The courtyard was a good place to sit and have some tea if you felt like some company :) The staff was always very friendly and helpful with questions or problems I had. I felt that they were experienced and also liked their job.

A friendly and convenient hotel with character.
The staff The location The character of the hotel
We had a really enjoyable stay and it was easiest the friendliest place I've stayed at in China. We arrived at 3am yet Michael was there to greet us. Every member of staff was helpful and Michael's wife was particularly helpful with explaining public transport. You can get to the bus and metro in an easy walk. It's also not very tourist area, a lot of students and there are some great places to eat on the next road. Without doubt, if I come back to Beijing I will stay here.
