Personal oasis in a HUGE city

The staff, the beautiful rooms, the quiet
Excellent! The staff was very professional, helpful and friendly. The hotel was a lovely, quiet place to come back to after a long day of sight seeing. The rooms were all beautifully decorated and clean. The courtyard was a good place to sit and have some tea if you felt like some company :) The staff was always very friendly and helpful with questions or problems I had. I felt that they were experienced and also liked their job.

A friendly and convenient hotel with character.

The staff The location The character of the hotel
We had a really enjoyable stay and it was easiest the friendliest place I've stayed at in China. We arrived at 3am yet Michael was there to greet us. Every member of staff was helpful and Michael's wife was particularly helpful with explaining public transport. You can get to the bus and metro in an easy walk. It's also not very tourist area, a lot of students and there are some great places to eat on the next road. Without doubt, if I come back to Beijing I will stay here.

Most culturally rich hotel I have ever stayed at

You live history in the hotel, incredibly friendly staff, many restaurants/stores nearby
It was the most beautiful and unique hotel I have ever stayed at anywhere in the world. The staff bent over backward to be helpful and the neighborhood was easy to walk around to find restaurants and stores. When I stayed there, I felt like I stepped into the best of China's past with current day amenities.

Delightful boutique hotel

Very comfortable clean rooms. Charming and helpful (and English speaking) staff. Well located (8 minutes walk to convenient metro station)
A small hotel built in traditional style around a "courtyard" that is in fact an indoor atrium combining reception, lounge and breakfast area. Michael's house aims to provide a home away from home and the atmosphere is indeed more like a private home than a hotel, though our roomy executive suite had all the facilities you would expect from a high class establishment, and the large bed was the most comfortable we had enjoyed during our stay in China (the norm seemed to be for hard beds!) From arrival to departure the young english-speaking staff were always very friendly and helpful. The hotel is conveniently located a short walk from a "circle" line metro making travel around the city very easy. I have seen comments on Trip Advisor that the location is unpleasant, but we saw no problem; it is in a small side street within a Hutong, There are several perfectly acceptable restaurants within walking distance (assuming you like Chinese food) and the night market that springs up at dusk at the end of the street adds charm. The only issue may be that taxis may find it difficult to locate, though reception can "talk in" arriving cars and will happily order a taxi for you. They also provide an instruction card in Chinese for taxi drivers. In summary a delightful little hotel, very comfortable and with charming staff which enhanced our short stay in Beijing. Highly recommended.

Beautifully quirky, quiet local location and friendly staff
Very pretty. Value for money. Would go back. Decent breakfast, good staff and really nice quirky Chinese decor. I really liked this place, it has a lot of charm and the area is so local and great to be immersed in.
