Worst hotel. disgusting.

Awful hotel. We checked out early despite prepaying for the hotel. It was probably the worst place I've stayed if you want cleanliness and hot water in the shower don't stay here.

Not a good hotel

Nothing great!
Did not enjoy it, the morning breakfast was very poor and the staff was hopeless. Would not recommend families with young children to travel.

Nippon Villa Beach Resort

Pool was ok, although not the cleanest, best thing you walk straight out onto the beach
The poolside bar was closed and didn't look like it had been open in ages, no kettle or mossy net, the curtains were falling down and the drain in the shower really smelt bad?! When we went to complain to staff, not even an apology, was just told it was there cheapest type of room, The cleaner did come and change our sheets and bring us a kettle and net but we felt like it was abit of an I convince for them, we went to look for another hotel straight away, and checked out the following morning, the next place we stayed was cheaper and a lot nicer, staff couldn't of been more welcoming

Great location

location, comfortable bed, large room
We had a very comfortable 4 night stay. Our room was very big which we loved. We had booked a room with air conditioning which didn't get fixed until our last night (and then the power went off!) but the fans were very adequate and all that we really needed. It was clean and comfortable, and the morning breakfast was great, although do get in early as it does seem to go quickly! Its located right on the beach edge which was fantastic, and also has street entrance right out to restaurants and shops. The staff were very friendly, albeit a bit on Sri Lankan time when asked for a request! Perfect place if you want a budget beach hotel, and don't plan on spending much time there during the day.

great budget stay

location, location, location
i stayed with a friend for a few days and we had an enjoyable stay. There were a few issues with the air conditioners and wifi but nothing major. The staff tried quickly to fix them. The location is perfect, walking distance to restaurants and other resorts and right on the beach.

in our three week stay in sri lanka we lived at approx 10 hotels and this one was the worst by far. all the other hotels were great. it was so bad we actually didnt stay more than 3 hours before we checked out and went to another hotel ( hotel moonbeam that was great). dont get fooled by nippon beach restorts beautiful pictures cause they are not thruthful! when we entered the hotel it was very dark, no lihjts were on and it looked deserted. the staff was very ignorant at check in and no one helped us with our bags. the room itself was super dark and the beds were probably made of stone. no water pressure and almost no hot water. the pool was dirty and had a cockroach floating in it. we also saw several cockroaches alive and dead in the room and public areas. when we were hanging out by the pool a man came and sprayed some really strong insecticide just a couple of meters from us, im glad no kids were around case that stuff smelled dangerous! the 2 beach chairs were poorly mainteneced with nails sticking out and paint coming off. you had to walk down the beach to be able to swim cause outside the hotell it was sharp corals in the water(something that did not show in the pictures). as i wrote earlier we left after only 3 hours and went to another hotel, it was that bad so.... do not book this hotel!!

Beach is a few feet away, friendly staff

Nice room, pool and location
The breakfast is good quality but was the same on both days. Breakfast is the only meal that they offer - no restaurant service. But lots of eating options are available if you don't mind walking. Barista has opened up which is one of the best things to happen in Hikkaduwa. Location is good, right on the beach and the pool is lovely to lounge in as the ocean is not safe to swim in. Sea view suite on the ground floor was spacious and bathroom was large.

Not terrible but definitely "budget" hotel.

balcony, right on the beach
Stay was fine overall. However, we booked the ocean view "suite", which wasn't worth what we paid for. The pictures are pure fiction. The bathroom, was particularly bad commpared to the nice one in the picture. But, I guess the ocean view and balcony made up for it. We were as close to the sea as you can get. As others have commented the hotel was pretty dilapidated, but it didn't spoil our stay.
