Toronto (ON)
Known in Canada as the “center of the universe”, Toronto is a true cosmopolitan city, with all the diversity, culture and artistic flair of New York (the city it often doubles for, in major television and film productions). Canada’s largest city and economic center also showcases an eclectic architectural mix of the new with the classic. Heritage-style buildings like the Fairmont Royal York Hotel (an elegant Victorian Toronto accommodation) and famous Massey Hall mingle amongst newly developed luxury Toronto hotels and skyscrapers like the Ritz Carlton, Trump Tower and BCE Building.
Well known for its acting community Toronto holds arguably the world’s third most important film festival (behind Cannes and Sundance). Held at the end of August, the Toronto International Film Festival draws in celebrities and their fans and showcases the latest and greatest (and occasionally lamest) offerings from the world of film. International celebrities are seen mingling and partying at many of Toronto’s hotels during the two week festival.
Toronto is also home to the most popular hockey franchise in the world. Now playing in the Air Canada Centre (also home to the NBA Raptors), the Toronto Maple Leafs carve the ice in the winter. And in the summer, the 2-time World Series Champion Blue Jays knock the ball out of nearby Roger’s Centre. Once known as the Skydome, its retractable roof opens up in nice weather and lets the crowd enjoy the game under the sun and the tall slender shadow of the CN Tower.
Set on picturesque Lake Superior, white sails race across the blue horizon of the Great Lake as the winds whip up the waves. Everyone in Toronto hits the beaches in the summer, as if it were a seaside resort. Warm, humid summers are a stark contrast to the cold, windy winters that keep everyone inside, watching the multitude of attractions this city has to offer.
