Unexpected resort
great view of large fresh water lake bacalar

We arrived into chetamal airport in the dark. We believed we had booked a hotel in nearby chetamal. The $25 taxi ride north in the dark was disconcerting as we saw the road signs for cancun, and we kept asking the spanish-speaking driver "chetemal?" It ended up that we were in Bacalar...which was great. The lake was turquoise and the locals friendle as they stopped to give us rides to town. So what was a nightime comedy of errors turned out to be a daytime jewel.
Travel tip:
Food wasn't great and it was pricey.
