Fontan is a great location at a bargain price. The restaurant is quite good, all the staff are helpful and friendly, and my room had everything I expect in more expensive hotels.
No business center, only one elevator (two others are being refurbished... sloooowly).
Their own brochure and several on-line sites show a modern business center with a row of computers; when I was there (late May '09) there was no business center, closest place (but a very good one at a good price) was three blocks away. The rooftop patio area was clean enough but a bit scruffy and was padlocked, although they were quick to open it if requested, and it was a pleasant place for reading and enjoying the city views. Didn't ever notice street noise at night on just the third floor, but on the back. Having no A/C was never a problem, climate was near-perfect the week I was there.

Location, location, location
2 of 3 elevators out of service
Steps from the Metro and central to main Historic District; rooms
clean and adequate, Staff courteous, but minimally English-speaking. Got cabs to airport on time. No ice machines on floor, necessitating 7 floor elevator to restaurant to get ice. We went the day the Swine Flu scare hit Mexico City and were shut out of seeing almost all cultural sights. Not the Hotel's fault, that. Would stay there readily next time we go.
Travel tip : Use the Metro to see the City.

Very good value.
The staff are helpful, friendly and very knowledgeable about the city.
The room was comfortable and properly serviced every day.
I heartily recommend the sopa de mariscos in the restaurant.
Some modernization going on so only one lift was working during Holy Week 2009. The floors that have been renovated look much better than those still to be dealt with - cleaner and brighter - so it´s worth asking about this when you book.
Great value for money and only a block away from The Alameda and 15 minutes from the Historic Centre. The staff are particularly nice, nothing seems to be too much trouble and they have lots of good advice for places to visit or to eat and drink.
The restaurant serves a range of decent food - some very good dishes on the a la carte. The Mexican buffet breakfast is a good deal ($10) if you like that sort of thing.
Rooms are clean and comfortable, but those facing Paseo de La Reforma can be a bit noisy as this is one of the busiest streets in the city. Light sleepers may find it best to book a room at the rear.
Modernization work was going on when I visited - Holy Week 2009 - and although there was no noise, it was inconvenient having only one lift operational. However, the floors that have been renovated are bright, clean and nicely decorated and once work has finished, the whole place will be the better for it.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The Diego Rivera Mural museum is only one block away at the start of the Alameda park and on the way to the Historic Centre.

Location. Buffet breakfast.
Reception Staff speak little but Spanish. Only 1 elevator, the other two under construction. WiFi internet didn't work.
Very little positive to say about his property other than the fact that it is conveniently located: Near Hildago Metro station. Walking distance to the Zona Rosa and reasonably located near good restaurants of various price ranges. The Hotel Fontan should never be considered an international business hotel, the staff speaks little but Spanish. The WiFi Internet did not work either in the rooms nor halls nor lobby (The internet demanded a password which the staff could not provide). The hotel is undergoing widespread renovations: 2 of the 3 elevators had been removed completely leaving a long queue for the remaining lift (with maximum capacity 10 persons without baggage). The first floor being renovationed just below us. Little sound-proofing causing excessive street noise combined with high internal noise level (at least for lower floors) caused by Karaoke from Hotel Bar. I would neither recommend this property nor personally stay at this property again.
Hotel Feature Tip : Request (if that's even possible) a room on a lower floor unless you enjoy climbing stairs while hotel undergoes extensive renovations. 2 of 3 lifts have been removed with no completion date available).

Great hotel locaton. Great hotel restaurant. Great hotel staff.
Not shiny new. Some street noise.
This hotel is an incredible value. The location makes it ideal for the price. For me it was in walking distance from the Bosque de Chapultepec, the Zocalo, and everything in between, which is almost every must see site in D.F.
The hotel restaurant is excellent. There is a breakfast buffet that is well worth 110 pesos.
The hotel staff is very attentive and almost everyone spoke enough english to be helpful.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Alameda Park a block away. Placio de Bellas Artes, a pleasant walk through Alameda Park away.

the hotel is located in center of Mexico city. The traffic is very convenience. By walking, 5min. to Metro 2# and Metro 3#.
it's near by road and car parking, so it's very noisy in the night. The windown is not insulation of it.
for the location , the hotel is ok. but when we lost cap, we make phone call to inform them, when we are back, we chould'nt find it. So the service is so so.

Nice hotel, very central at Hidalgo Sq. (subway) and Paseo de las Reformas (main Blvd.). Friendly staff, clean rooms comparable to middleclass European hotels.
Overpriced restaurant, rooms facing Reforma very loud, safe deposit at reception desk inconvenient - seperate safes in the room would be better, "solarium" out of order. "Wake-up" by staff at 8am, if you don`t use the "no molestar" sign.
A very cheap and quite average city hotel, central to Cetro Historico and Zona Rosa, which a fairly safe Mexico D.F. neighborhoods. But but it here because booked on location the rate will double and more.
Hotel Feature Tip : If you are sensitive to loud noise, take a room on an higher floor NOT facing P.d.l. Reformas.

The Hotel is in a very good location. The hotel is a good value. The hotel wireless is very easy to use. The hotel restaurant has good coffe.
Staff is friendly, but most do not speak english, and cannot accomodate you if you have a problem.
The hotel is exceptionally noisy because of its location. Most of the staff cannot speak english. Rooms on lower floors were refurbished. We could not obtain a refurbished room. We wanted to extend our stay, the hotel would not honor the rate we were paying through Agoda. We therefore, were forced to take another hotel, because they wanted to charge us full rate.
The Hotel Fontan has a good location. It is central to many of the sites a tourist should visit. The staff is relatively friendly, but most do not speak english. The staff can accomodate getting you a safe taxi, had tours by private carrier that were a good value, has a convenient restaurant, with good coffee, what looked like a good breakfast buffet, and/or continental breakfast. We did use the safe deposit box, and felt comfortable with that. We felt very saf. The lobby had security posted at the door, and a security officer inside. Our accomodations were acceptable. Clean. But the front desk would not allow us to have a refurbished room. We believe it was because of the very low price we paid for the room rate. They also would not allow us to extend our stay, based on the rate we were paying. We probably would stay there again. It wa basic, but we felt safe and the location is great. Right across from the bus station.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Many attractions are relatively close to the hotel, you can walk (if fit)

The best features of this hotel is the service. You are treated with first class service and respect. It is centrally located with taxi and bus tour service available outside the hotel doors.
It´s an old hotel and was under some elevator re-construction, so the contruction debris was not pleasant to see but was not a big deal!
My daughter had her graduation party at the Sheraton Hotel around the corner from Fontan, the prices at the Sheraton were very high. When we saw the rates for the Fontan, we were a little hesitant because we thought it would be a very bad hotel because the price was so reasonable. We were pleasantly surprised (& relieved)when we arrived and were treated with first class service the moment we walked in the door. The rooms were clean, and I recieved a knock on our door shortly after we arrived and was asked if everything was ok and if we needed anything. This really impressed me! The maid cleaned our room and changed our bed sheets and vacuumed the floor. The is a first class service hotel and I will definately be back. Thank you Hotel Fontan
Nightlife Tip : I do not recomend going to Casa del Sol(on Juarez ave.) the service lousy, the food is horible, and they will NOT let you leave unless they see your receipt (which the waitress forgot to give to my wife)

Location. It is strategically located in Paseo de la Reforma, right in fornt of the Hidalgo metro station, and minutes walking from the main tourist attractions.
The cleaning crew/housekeeping was amazing, they had a great customer service and were more helpful than the night managers or the front desk agents.
Frustrating to make phone calls because you can't dial directly. You have to ask the staff to connect you.
The elevator was not working properly
I was out of hot water for 2 days and it was chilly.
I did not have a telephone working for a couple of days.
The hotel receptionists are very rude and helpless.
I speak English and Spanish so I understood perfectly what the front desk staff was saying about the clients and their lack of helpfullness.
I stayed in the sixth floor where you could see a lot of repairs going on.
Some of the staff did not speak English.

The breakfast was excellent. It was well located in the city.
They did not turn on the heat and the rooms were a bit cold. No coffe in rooms.
The hotel is not exscellent but alright. It was livable and it was inexpensive. The rooms were cleaned daily and the staff was polite. The hotel is centrally located in the city and I found some great shopping spots. The food in the immediate area was great. The subway was near and the buses and taxis ran regularly. Actually, I would stay there again as it was rather acceptable. Had no trouble checking in or out. Was able to make reasonable phone calls. Internet service was a bit expensive but there are internetd services various places in the city.
Shopping Tip : go into the town and shop. excellent deals

Great rate, good location right off the Metro, clean--although not brand new--rooms
Windows not very sound-proof. Do not rely on the wake-up call service
I have had two brief stays at this hotel, and was content with both. The first stay was on the 8th floor facing the back street, while the second one was on the 3rd floor facing the Reforma Avenue. Needless to say, the second room was a bit noisy (the window's noise isolation was poor). In light of the rate (I paid USD27 per night for single occupancy), the relative cleanliness, and good (although not spectacular) location, I consider this a very good hotel.

People are nice and kind, it's located downtown so you just walk across the street and take the subway. It's very cheap!
Noise level is very high, Paseo de la Reforma is a very crowded street, The bed is a little bit hard. It's kind of hard to get hot water due to the water handles, might become a mess.
I liked that the Hotel is very near downtown, people are very nice and breakfast is great, I had an omelette in a few minutes just made by the very kind chef there. I liked the service and I felt like I was home, everyone treated mi so nice, what I did not like was the noise level, you can hear the neighbor's TV and the very crowded street outside.
