Very low quality/price ratio for this location
4.7
I've lived in Mexico for four years with my Mexican fiancée, traveling around. So I know what to expect It's definitely not what we got!
Issues, in order of relevance (for us):
* Service and food prices are completely crazy:
- $ 80 (US$ 7) for a beer or soft drink on the beach or around the pool. At the convenience store: a six pack costs $ 50 (~ US$ 4).
- $ 150 (US$ 13) for a sandwich to the room. I get a good meal at a nice restaurant (with drinks) for US$ 20.
- US$ 8 for 1 hour of Wifi internet. It's free in virtually any hotel; a cybercafe typically charges less than US$ 1.
--> Most tourists were English-speakers, I guess the hotel's strategy is a rip-off of naive "gringos".
* We were billed a tip at the end of the stay (US$ 3.50 / night). Tip is voluntary in Mexico (by law and custom) and it's not a custom in this class of hotel (unlike in the restaurant); we had to explicitly decline it and sign a form with an explanation!
* Suite was fine but with several issues:
- Very noisy air conditioner (clearly half broken). Hopefully we didn't need it much.
- Leaking bath tube (the room's entrance completely flooded).
- Very ugly access: pass way on the 2nd floor above a dirty car park, air conditioners butts popping out of the hotel's walls.
- Nice baclony though!
--> Web presentation (images) is clearly misleading, though technically correct.
* Beach front is about 1/3rd of the hotel width on the road, so very little room there. Get up early morning or expect to wait a lot if you want a seat! Pools are fine.
* No access card for the car; we were constantly asked for name or room number!
Travel tip:
Probably better in the following situations: All inclusive with friends, or suite with a family of four with own food/drinks. In any case, plan to drive to a beach (or experience a bus ride!)
