Every time an Agoda customer checks out of a hotel we send them an email asking them to write a review of their stay. This is the only way reviews can be submitted. Every review must then be approved by our content team before being posted on the Agoda website. Therefore, unlike many other travel sites, ALL Agoda reviews are certified and genuine.
We want you to pay the lowest possible rate for your room. If you have reserved a hotel room through Agoda, and then show us that you could book the same room, for the same dates, at a lower rate, that is viewable and bookable on another website, within 48 hours of booking your room with us, we will either match that rate or beat it. Everything about this hotel signals "care". I was only in Chicago for two nights with my grand-daughter and we had a marvellous time. The situation of the hotel could not be better - especially if you like shopping - and my grand-daughter was preparing for college so it was perfect!
Just didn't know about the complimentary tea and coffee till we left!
I really feel that I've written my review in the "Pro's" section.I would recommend the Whitehall to anyone, as the rates are reasonable, the staff helpful, the situation unbeatable, and the rooms well-equipped. Plus the fact that the beds are large and comfortable. Very important when sharing with your grand-daughter! A complete success.
Shopping Tip : All the big stores in adjoining Madison Avenue

easy 4 block jog to Chicago's Miles (and miles) of running, biking lakefront. Around the corner for Chicago's world-class shopping. Modern renovation while preserving the elegance of the past. fine restaurant, neat bar(s).
What's not to like when the renovations are finished?
If you like being in the heart of what's happening, walking distance or short cab rides to the places you want to go and see, this is your hotel. Just renovated (or almost renovated) while preserving the elegance of times past, makes this an unforgettable hotel experience. Helpful, friendly staff makes hospitality come alive.
Travel tip : Chicago lakefront walk, run, bike paths not to be missed for fitness buffs.

Nice beds, very helpful staff.
room had a slight smokey smell to it.
The location of the hotel was extremely close to all of the main attraction in Chicago. It was practically next door to the John Hancock building. The rooms were very nice and the beds were very comfortable. The only problem I encountered during my stay was paying some money to park each night.

The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was very nice.
Paying for highspeed internet, the tv was old and not very good. Setting aside $50 on a debit card because it wasn't a credit card (I've staying in 100s of hotels, this was the first to do this).
This hotel has a lot of charm. The lobby staff was quite friendly, and followed up with me later in the day to ensure I had everything I needed and that the room was to my liking. My room was clean, and the bed was quite soft and comfortable, I had a great nights sleep. I did not try room service or any other services, but the staff I interacting with were friendly and professional. I'd stay there again. Very close to 900 N. Michigan and Water Tower Place.

It would have been nice to have a roll or croissant for a continental breakfast, and evening coffee available
We were greeted with a pleasant smile. The concierge helped us find the bus we needed. Doormen got us a cab when we requested one and were always there to open the door. The Christmas tree was outstanding. The 2 bears were special as well. We had our picture taken by them--We had a problem with the heat. The man came to check it within 5 minutes and reported that a part had malfunction with the unit and he could not fix it. Would we mind moving across the hall to a suite. No problem. The suite was lovely. They and he could not have been nicer. I will recommend the Whitehall to anyone who asks about it.--As a sidebar: We were at the Museum of Sc. and Industry and asked a volunteer how to take t he bus to the hotel. She said she lived near Navy Pier and went to the Whitehall for suppers. She said she loved it. Nice compliment from a local Chicagoan!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Hanckock Tower close by and shopping as well

The location of the hotel is perfect. In the heart of the city and just off of Michigan on the south end of the magnificent mile. It is a short walking distance to great restaurants and shops and very easy for a cab to get to -- I don't think the fare was over $10 for any of the rides we took back to the hotel (even from the theatre district).

Location, Historic Feel, Upscale Bedding and Linens, Fast Elevators
This hotel is a boutique-style property in a terrific location in the northern part of the downtown area. It is an easy walk to the Magnificent Mile and an endless row of brand-name shopping. It has a very historic feel to it, yet some things you worry about in older properties are not issues. The elevators are super fast and I never had to wait more than 15 or 20 seconds for the elevator to open on the 10th floor. The bedding is upscale. Three telephones are found in each room, including one in the bathroom. The bellmen and staff are friendly and helpful. My only issue was climate control. The first night, cool air was rushing out when I had the heat on. The temperature was stuck in the mid 60s. I asked my room to be checked the next morning and I came back to the mid 70s and heat coming out even when the thermostat was set to off. I had to keep the window open a bit to help cool the room back to about 70. Besides this issue, my stay was quite enjoyable.
Restaurant Tip : For a quick meal on the fly, Go to Foodlife on the mezzanine level of Water Place Tower just a short walk away from the hotel. It takes the "food court" idea to a new level. You get seated and given a card upon entering. You then walk around and choose from a dozen or so types of food with everything being put on the card. You don't have to take out any money until you exit.

Room was comfortable and well appointed. GREAT Hotel location, just a 1/2 block off Michigan avenue. Very friendly staff that was always helpful. Affordable!
Nothing really to mention. Bathroom was small, but certainly acceptable.
We had a great stay at Whitehall Hotel!! I booked it without any background on the hotel, short of the online information. The staff was great in getting us checked in. The location couldn't have been better. The value for the money was probably one of the best i've come across in the bigger cities. I would book again with Whitehall again and again...and likely will on my next return to Chicago.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Shopping and sight-seeing along Michigan Avenue.

-location just off Michigan Ave
-Hotel restaurant is fantastic
-Rooms were nice and clean
I would recommend this hotel to a friend. It is located in prime shopping area on Michigan Ave and side streets. The hotel restaurant was great and we ate there both nights! Delicious! The only downfall is the view - but if you're just looking to have a nice room and good location to stay in while you're on vacation this was well worth it!

Location!!
Just one block from Hancock Center and Water Tower.
Bed and sheets really comfortable and in excellent shape.
No complimentary internet access.
Concierge provides basic information only.
Very small rooms.
Few/none King Beds availability.
My wife and I stayed here the first week of November 2008. Everything went great with our reservation through Agoda. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a Pinacle Queen, staff at front desk was very helpful and charming. The rooms were on the small side, but very comfortable and in very good shape. The bed was really comfortable and the sheets were in excellent shape. The hotel cannot be better located at only one block from Hancock Center and Water Tower. There is no complimentary internet access, though there's a ING Caffe located about three blocks from the hotel with complimentary internet access. Just a couple of blocks from the hotel are the Rush Street restaurants and bars. This hotel is a great value for money, specially when the last thing you want to do in Chicago Downtown is be at the room.

Well worth the money. Older hotel but maintained well. Room was corner unit and spacious. Lounge and bar great place to hang out with a ton of seating. Great location to Michigan and all the shopping, etc.
No view but didn't care. Had a couple issues; smoke detector was beeping and needed to be replaced; no big deal. Also, lost power to room when blow drying hair; fixed within minutes.
I would recommend this place for anyone coming into town for a long weekend. Extremely good location with easy access to restaurants and shopping. Room was corner unit so plenty spacious. Bedding was great with really nice pillows. While it is an older hotel, it was pretty well maintained. The onsite bar and lounge had a lot of seating and cozy areas to hang with friends. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family. I would also recommending Agoda.com to book it. We got great rates comparable to what the hotel was asking directly.

Best location in the city, clean, well-kept rooms.
While the staff was pleasant, there were countless errors made. First of all, when we checked in, their system was down, so it took two hours to check in. Then, in the three days we were there, our keys never worked ONCE -each time, we'd try the lock and have to go back downstairs to get new keys. I cannot tell you how frustrating it was to come home after exercising or a night of drinking and have to wait in line at the front desk for new keys. All that being said, the location is spectacular - I used to live in the city and could not have picked a more central location!
Travel tip : Gibson's, the best steakhouse in Chicago, is walking distance. Go there!

Hotel manager was less than helpful. Hotel lobby is outdated and furnishings need updating.
Although I like the size of this boutique hotel, it is stuffy and pretentious. The manager at the hotel was not accommodating and less than helpful as I tried to discuss an issue with my reservation. While trying to resolve the issue, she disappeared, and as I later found out after standing in the lobby waiting for 20 minutes, she had ducked out for lunch. I was very dissappointed with the lack of personal service that I had hoped would be associated with a smaller, boutique hotel. A hotel manager that doesn't care about her guests is a big red flag for any organization. There are plenty of other good hotel options to choose from in the Chicago area.
Hotel Feature Tip : If you don't book your reservation directly with the Whitehall hotel, the manager is not interested in working out any problems with your reservation.

Easy location - very friendly staff - nice atmosphere
Would definitely recommend the Whitehall - and I would definitely stay there again when traveling in Chicago. Appreciated the boutique "feel" of the hotel and the attention of the staff. Excellent location - had no problem getting around. I highly recommend it to all Chicago travelers. The only thing I would encourage the hotel to consider would be to expand their room service menue. Other than that - all was well!

Filthy dirty vents in the ceiling of the bathroom. Filthy dirty bed skirts where animals/pets had rubbed up against.
No segregation for rooms that have had pets in them and others that have had no pets in them.
This hotel has a great location. BUT, it was very dirty. The ceiling vents in the bathroom had literally at least an inch of dust stuck on the slots of the vent. Particles/clumps of dust were falling on my head, so I looked up to see the GROSS, uncleaned vent. Also, the bed skirts were dirty with marks from animals/pets that are apparently allowed in the room. I would never stay there again.
