The Cecil Hotel is a highly affordable downtown Los Angeles hotel built in European style. Situated in a classic building from 1927, this hotel provides great value and fantastic access. It is ideal for convention goers, university students, and budget vacationers. Many of LA's finest shops, trendiest restaurants, and famed entertainment are all within walking distance. For example, the world renowned Los Angeles Fashion District, Los Angeles Jewelry District, and Santee Alley are just steps away from the hotel. Also, USC and the Los Angeles Convention Center are only a few blocks away. Rooms have basic amenities and are decorated in earth tones and neutral colors. Some rooms have a private bathroom while others have shared facilities. If you want to be close to the most important sites in downtown LA and not break your budget, the Cecil Hotel is just right for you.

I like the deco of the hotel & the lovely home feel. Approachable staff who are all ready to help.
The place doesn't come with food at night so would do well to settle dinner or stock up some snacks for late night. Would be better if they have kettles in the room.
Had a good stay at the hotel generally. Away from the hustle of the downtown. Good to sit by the cafe at the lobby for a good morning coffee. Near Clifton Cafe which is a good authentic place. But be there early because most eateries near the hotel close at 6pm. Only bad point about the hotel besides not having a kettle, that is, no late night supper unless u stock up before the eateries close.
Restaurant Tip : Visit Clifton Cafe, 5 min away from the hotel. Must try

I like its location which is downtown, less than 30 mins from LA International Airport, and near to many little eateries.
The lobby area looks grand and welcoming, and the staff are all very friendly and do their best to fulfill my requests.
For the price I paid, I would think it offers more perks than a budget hotel.
The condition and size of the room. Of course for the price I can't expect a bigger room. But we found a few cockcroaches in the restroom which was extremely unbearable. The furnishing was also very dated and it was really hard to find the electric socket to charge my battery. Due to the age of the hotel, the plug was loose so with an adaptor plug it kept fall off and I have to use the TV Console to block it to prevent it from falling off. By the way, I found the socket behind the heavy TV Cabinet.
Bathroom door and room lock was also hard to manage. I have to ask my room mate to open the bathroom door for me every time as I can't open it myself from within!
Apart from the bugs and old furniture, electric socket which were half dead, I found the price reasonable for a hotel which has a great location and nice cosy lobby which offered free Wifi.
Beware though that there is no air-conditioning in the room or hotel. So it may get quite stuffy when you are surfing the net in the lobby, or if it is a hot summer holiday you are planning.
But if all that you were asking was a place to sleep at a convenient location, and don't mind the hygiene and dated furnishing of a small room, this is the place to stay, as the very friendly and helpful staff more than compensate for these shortcomings.
Restaurant Tip : There is a Chinese fast food outlet across the hotel which offered great chinese food at very reasonable price.

helpful staffs, convenient location
Great location for the money you paid for, 7 mins to the Pershing square station, in the jewelry district, walking distance to China town and some government places. Should book room with private bathroom.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : travel by train to the destination and buy the admission fee, don't book tour.
