THE ONLY THING SEPARATING THE HOTEL FROM A FABULOUS BEACH IS A LARGE PATIO/POOL/SAUNA/BAR
ROOM WAS SPARTAN,RUN DOWN
Being able to literally walk out the door of this hotel onto a fabulous beach is the strongest invitation to stay here. The vast expanse of torquoise sandy bottomed warm water is separated from the hotel only by groomed white sand. The hotel itself is currently undergoing renovations and updates. Simplicity seems to be its theme. Deauville offers a pleasant, but not plush, lobby and ballroom/convention area. Rooms opening onto the oceanview are small, unvarnished, with trendy bath area and a view to make you not care what the room is like at all. A non oceanview room is downright spartan-not even a bedspread to be found, and more than a bit downtrodden. However, even this room offered a view of the pool and ocean. The hotel fees included internet service, which was nice to be able to instantly connect the laptop to. Hotel staff were knowledgeable and quite accomadating. The restaurant was closed for renovations during our stay, but a lounge was open off of the lobby. The hotel features a fitness center, large outdoor pool and patio area with hot tub and bar, and hair salon, business center, guest laundry are available. Hopefully the renovations will continue and bring this beach resort up to par with its oceanview.

The massive hotel's location is definitely a 'pro'. Right on the main Collins Avenue with its back facing the ocean, its location can't be beaten. The rooms are large though in need of updating.
The hotel is run down. One could imagine it had its hey days. However, in its current shape, it needs major renovations to make it great again. Renovations include everything from furniture to bathroom fixtures to a good paint job. As with some other hotels in the area, parking is with valet so this may be good or bad depending on how busy the valet attendants are. During my stay, the waiting time range from 7 minutes to 15 minutes. The staff members at the reception desk aren't particularly friendly or helpful. They do the minimum to check you in and out with little smile. A friendlier personality would have been nice.
All in all, the location of the hotel is great. However, the hotel is run down with the bathroom in need of serious overhauling. Though I didn't use its fitness facilities (not so sure it's particularly impressive judging by the rest of the hotel amenities) or pool facilities, all guests must pay a 'resort fee' of some USD 10. For the amount paid, I'm not sure I would stay here again as there are better bargains to be had going north towards Sunny Isles.
Travel tip : For better bargain if seeking beach-front oldish hotels, head to Sunny Isles.

Housekeeping, old installations, service.
Photos on their homepage have nothing to do with the real thing
They are your typical Motel 6 room. The view was awful. The overall installations are old (must have been a great hotel back in the 60). The first morning I went out and returned by 2 in the afternoon and my room was still a mess. The day of my chekout they knocked at my door at 8:30 in te morning to clean!!!! My safe was broken and I had to call the front desk and show in person 4 times and they never sent someone to fix it. I would never go back again.
