Excellent location

filthy and dirty

I had heard the horrifying stories before daring myself to stay at this hotel. I only decided on its location. If you want somewhere cheap, please don't come to Cater. It is not cheap at all compared to those hotels within-the- reach -of subways. I stayed there for 5 nights and my room was not cleaned by any maid on any single day, although I actually requested it!

Hotel Condition, made service

The Carter Hotel is well located, at 43rd street all attractions are walking distance, dinner, theater district, Madison Square Garden, train stations, everything is close to the hotel.Their internet and tv services in the lobby are usefull on entertaiment basis.Airport transportation services are good and on time. information desk about entertaiment aroud the city is usefull. The carelessness for room service is one of the negative things of the hotel. Well it is a budget hotel.

Location and price - half a block from Times Squares.

Everything else.

Prior to my trip, I read plenty of bad reviews. I told my wife that I am not too worried because only people who were bitter about their stay will take time to complaint. It turns out, after 2 nights there, they were right. My expectations were low, and it turns out the place was even lower than my lowest expectations. Please, if you have a family, this is not a hotel - carpets, paint jobs, bathroom, towels, etc have not been replaced since the 1970s. It is depressing and gross. Again, those are not hotel rooms.

in the middle of Manhattan, cheap and with good beds.

mouse in the rooms, and they are dirty.

We stayed for 6 nights. And tried 4 rooms during these days. We changed room because a smell of cigarette smoke and a mouse in the room. One night a mouse ate our chocolate cake and chewed a bag. We wanted 100 dollars, instead the manager Mara did not pay us. But, inspite of that, it does not cost a lot staying here. It is very central and most of the personnel is nice.

Nightlife Tip : A lot of musicals

Location

Dirty, old, not hygienic

The only thing that I liked for the hotel is location, other than that it was horrible. The room was not hygienic and even there were some cockroachs in the bathroom. It was like a horror movie.

location

everything inside the room and outside is disgusting

This was my second time in Carter hotel the first time we've been there the ceiling of the bath collapsed and the hotel didn't even care, I thought that they changed and because of the good location I went back there so nothing has changed, this time the sink was broken, the TV didn’t have more than 2 channels, we had mice in the room, the room was very dirty and they wouldn’t clean it, we had some kind of a leak into the carpet so half of the room floor was wet, everything that you can see in the room and outside of it is very dirty and poor, it's disgusting, the worst part is that even though you pay money for this kind of room they treat you very bad and they don’t care about any problem you have, especially the manager. Please do not go there even if it's on a great location

Travel tip : Do not go there!!

The Location

Not clean, bugs every where, they need to have some serious pest control.

The hotel is just dirty! the air conditioning in the room was not working, the room was really stuffy. The worst part of this hotel was when I got home my friend and I found that we had bed bugs from this nasty hotel.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : was a great place very close to times square, but would never stay again, bed bugs are not a good thing to come back home with!

location, availability and roomrate

no heating, no cleaning

Because the place I originally booked in New York cancelled on me at the last minute I had to resort to the infamous Hotel Carter. Having read the reviews online, I was prepared for the worst, but my room was reasonable clean and free from vermin, at least until some very nasty mosquitos got in through the cracks where the windows didn't close properly. It was also very cold and the heating didn't work, but as I only was there to sleep, this didn't really bother me. The bed was huge and I even had a room with a closet! The room was cleaned and the bed made up only once during my weeklong stay, so once a week is probably the normal frequency. The free wifi in the lobby is a plus, but it would be even nicer if there was wifi in the rooms. All in all, I would recommend it if you need a (relatively) cheap place at a central location in New York and do not expect too much from your hotel room. If you stay there, inspect your room upon arrival and complain within 30 minutes if it's not acceptable, as they charge a night if you decide to leave after that!

location, price

room - old, very small, smell not that good - need refreshment, windows are not sealed. bath - not in a good shape, water are not hot enough

very good location on the 43rd, just next to times square and the 42sd, so you can easy walk anywhere in the city. The rooms are old, very small and have a bad smell - they really need a refreshment. windows are not sealed, they try to put some tape/ dry wall but, there is a lot of noise from the street. the bath is not in a good shape and the water were not hot enough.

Hotel Feature Tip : good enough if you need a night or two in the middle of Manhattan and didn't find a better deal.

1 - Cost is unbeatable for a single room with bath in Manhattan 2 - Location is ideal for theater, transportation

1 - General state of the hotel is run-down 2 - Service is curt

In general, I would recommend this hotel to anyone on a limited budget who is in New York to see the city, enjoy theater, musicals, museums, etc. Naturally, this is not a high class establishment and service is minimal, but if the point of your visit is to spend time enjoying what the city has to offer, the quality of the room is a marginal consideration. The location is ideal and easy to access from Times Square.

They have a great location in New York, the best I think with that price.

They have a lot of things to care about the facilities, I know that it`s cheap but that does not mean to be a hole in the wall. I suggest develop clean programs with a low cost and that will help them to have more bookings in near future

It was a 4 nights stay in new york and the city has a lot of things to do and see so I did not spend a lot of time in the hotel but What I really worry about the carter Hotel is how the general manager allowed to the employees to do nothing for their work and of course nothing to exceed the guest expectations, It doesn't matter if it is cheap, they have skills that they need to learn how to use it. I suggest to change the administration to have better workers and a consequences best experiences from us.

Restaurant Tip : You have to eat at the Carnagie Deli 55 street 7 av. it's a wow!

area, polite gate security

Unfortunately it is too dirty and in more than poor maintenance conditions. We have talked with managers looking for room change, however they don´t care about customers. We had bought some foods and unfortunately there was mouse in the room.

I never will recomend to other people.

Location.

Dirty dirty dirty.

If you just want to find a place for sleeping, this place is worth while for this price. The location is the best thing, it is close to Time Square and Port Authority. But the cleanliness is a big problem. The door of the bathroom cannot close. And many bugs wandering around. When I woke up, I see many bugs on my bed. The television does not work properly. This is a really old hotel in conclusion.
