You get what you pay for in NYC
Relatively cheap, availability the day before, close to central park
5.3
I only booked this room the day before visiting NYC. The main reason I chose this hotel was because it was the only available twin (non-hostel) room in manhattan that didn't cost an absolute fortune (I paid ~130, most other places were $200).
This place is fairly run down. The lobby is well maintained, but the rest of the hotel badly needs modernizing. My room was old, wallpaper peeling, old worn carpets, broken TV remote, etc. That said, for a upper westside hotel, the room was relatively large and the bedclothes/pillows were clean and in good condition. The aircon worked, and there was a safe in the closet. Although the bathroom had mold on the (high) ceiling, it seemed otherwise clean, and the toilet/sink etc were distinctly newer than the room itself. The staff were friendly (although I had prepaid from another company). Oh yeah, the elevator is painfully slow, don't be in a rush.
It's right by the 96th street 1/2/3 subway stop which is great, and the 96th street A/C/B/D is only two avenues over. As other people have said, this hotel isn't somewhere you'd spend time in. If you don't need your own bathroom, you'd get better value and quality at a hostel. If you like your privacy and just want somewhere to sleep, wash and leave your bags, you can do a lot worse than this place.

Good location and service

The location offers convenience to take transportations like subway to go out for sightseeing and shopping. It was quiet at night. Good service. It could be better if the sheet was cleaner.

Convenient location, close to elevator subway
6.3
The hotel is your basic budget hotel. Room was clean. Bed to be honest was not all that comfy. To be honest though, the hotel does its job as its a great place to crash for the night.
Wifi service in the rooms were really slow. Hot tip, it speeds up a bit after 11pm and early mornings when I guess people are sleeping! The elevators were also equally slow. Wen checking out, try and beat the rush by doing it a little earlier.
Location was great. Subway station was really close and for lazy people like me, it has an elevator! The area has lots of available food and a Duane reade close by.
Annoying thing is can't really sleep in as housekeeping will knock on your doors to clean your room quite early. So put that do not disturb sign on.

Nice location in manhattan
the location was great. Close to subway, and to many restaurants and cafes.

This hotel was in a good location, walking distance to central park, and surrounded by cafes and restaurants. The room was quiet but very small with a terrible tv, and a double bed not a queen. The room that we had(I got the discount rate) was in a far away corner(we felt hemmed in)the carpet was dirty, and the hall way carpet was in need of repair. There were renovations going on so the carpets will hopefully be replaced. considering the location I would recommend this place if you are not claustrophobic.
Travel tip:
We loved Manhattan. Especially check out the many cafes and bakeries that are everywhere. The subway is the best way to get around Manhattan. There is street parking for your car if you are not downtown if you are willing to take tim eto look.

Great location but parts of hotel under renovation
8.7
the hotel is situated in a nice part of the upper west side. it's very convenient and accessible. just beside it is a grocery and the subway is nearby. the hotel lobby is really spacious and has free wifi. the only concern is that the hotel is kind of old and some parts are under renovation. all this aside, this hotel is a good place to sleep in and relax. there's even a fitness center downstairs. good value for money.
