Location, neatly kept rooms, quietness of back side rooms, valet parking. Very limited breakfast space. The location of the hotel is superb for exploring central Manhattan. Smoothly working valet parking service is a great relief for guests arriving by car. A fourth floor room on the courtyard side is about as quiet as you can get in the middle of a large city.
Nightlife Tip : Two attractive club type places with good music right around the corner from the hotel.

The location is very close to several NY City landmarks: Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Waldorf-Astoria, and Times Square. The official check-in time is not until 4 p.m. which is inconvenient if you are only staying for one day. But once our room was prepared, the staff checked us in early The hotel was in walking distance to most of our planned activities. While the hotel lobby is extremely small and can get congested during check-in and breakfast, our room was roomy (for a NY hotel room) and clean. The hotel features a continental breakfast, but no longer has a restaurant adjacent to the facility. But there are plenty of restaurant options nearby.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : New York City has a lot of one-way streets. When taking a taxi cab you can save money by walking a block to a cross street that runs toward your destination. As opposed to paying a taxi to circle around for several blocks until you headed in the right direction.

Location. Quiet and clean room with comfortable bed. Very small and cramped reception area. Corridors on bedroom floors could do with renovation.No facilities
Generally speaking New York hotels are expensive and represent poor value for money. The Helmsley Midtowne however is relatively inexpensive given its location and comfort of the rooms.Whilst it has no facilities including restaurant it did, unusually for NYC, provide a free continental breakfast which could be taken back to the room with the tray provided. The room was clean, quiet and spacious with plenty of storage space, very comfortable bed and modern bathroom. To be recommended to those on modest budgets.
Restaurant Tip : A short walk to the Oyster Bar at Grand Central Rail Station.
