East side location, near UN, health club, pool, tennis court, view of Empire State Building, and Chrysler Building

Sparse room decor, no coffee pot ( unless requested) , no restaurant or bar

My husband and I stayed here the night before I ran the NYC Marathon. We were upgraded to a superior room - it was double beds in a small, sparsely furnished room! I would like ot know what the regular rooms looked like. There was no coffee pot and when I asked where I could get coffee at 5 AM before boarding the bus, the concierge politely told me that he did not know. At least we did have a spectacular view of the Empire State Building lit in orange, blue and white in honor of the marathon!

Restaurant Tip : Be careful if the staff recommends a nearby restaurant - our bill at the one they suggested was $700.00 for 8 - not abnormal for New York but not a spectacular culinary experience either.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I arrived on an early flight and was at the hotel at 7:30 am expecting to be told I could not check in for several hours - I was wrong. They let me into my room, there were no questions asked and no extra charge (as some other hotels might do). The front desk staff were very friendly and the Concierge really knew her stuff. I would stay at this hotel again. It was a little expensive but this is New York, for only a few dollars less than the money I was paying other hotels would have had me sharing a bathroom.

Travel tip : If you arrive in New York and it's raining, don't buy an umbrella from your hotel. Go outside and wait a few minutes, someone will be along shortly to sell you a serviceable umbrella for much less than the hotel gift shop.
