It was right in the middle of everything, great location.
check in was rediculous. it took over an hour to get checked in. only two people cheking in a very long line and it was very late at night too!
All in all the stay was adequite. the first room was very small but the next day we asked for an upgrade and got a much better room. the beds were ok the room was fairly clean and the water was nice and hot. the location was perfectly central, right across from Madison square garden. ten minutes from time square and twenty from the village. i found the people to be friendly and i would stay there again.
Shopping Tip : the best deals were near HP. we found the most right in the area.

Small rooms dirty service not polite
The location of the hotel is amazing in the midtown near subway many shops and coffee shops. But the hotel itself is not good the service is impolite the rooms are very old and small very very old. And don't worth the price. But if out don't mind small room the location will be worth it. Enjoy NYC

Terrible check-in experience. Took 45 minutes. Took 10 minutes to check out.
Restaurant Tip : Nice McDonalds just down the street. Nice way to avoid overpriced restaurant on site.

close to subway, trains, time square, shops and resturants.
would recommend better cleaning of the rooms and hallways
Great position subway and train on the doorstep however would recommend you walk as most of the area has lots to see. Rooms are dated and the cleaning a bit ordinary but where else could you get this location a reasonable bed and your own bathroom for the money. If you like 5 star then its not for you, if all you need is somewhere to sleep and shower you can't go past it. I would stay again.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : hop on hop off bus a great way to see the sights we had no waiting and traffic was good if its peak time could be a problem

This was my second stay at Hotel Pennsylvania. When I travel to NYC, I travel by the NorthEast Corridor Train and Hotel Pennsylvania is located directly across the street from the train station. The lobby is welcoming and bright. My room was located at the front of the hotel so when I looked out the window I saw Madison Square Garden and the wonderful, busy 7th Avenue.
My only complaint was checking in. Upon arriving at Hotel Pennsylvania, the check in line was almost at the door. I stood in line for almost two hours. There were only four people behind the desk checking guest in.
My night at Hotel Pennsylvania was an enjoyable one. I liked that I didn't have to walk far, or wait for a taxi to take me to my destination once I got off my train, the hotel is located right across the street from the station. I was greeted at the front door and walked into a nice bright lobby. I totally enjoyed the view from my room. My only complaint was the long two hour wait in line to check into the hotel. Other than that, my night at Hotel Pennsylvania was fantastic.
Hotel Feature Tip : Hotel Pennsylvania is located across the street from Madison Square Garden and Penn Station Train Station. It is within walking distance of many shopping and eating places. If you can't walk there, taxis are just inches away.

Location and great friendly and efficient staff.
Clean
Bathing area downstairs drain and music would be nice, for the dog spa.
2009 was another terrific year with the Hotel Penn staff and accomodations. Convenient to shopping and important communication centers.
The business center was being renovated and did not access business services at hotel.
Food at restaurant good and Bellmen always willing to offer a helping hand. I missed the central chandelier with the new lobby. I look forward to being able to reserve again for next year. Thursday to Wednesday stay one week. Room size was great and extra pillows made for comfortable stay. The staff went out and made purchases to make the room friendly and enjoyable stay away from home.

For being an older hotel they did some really nice remodels to the lobby area and elevators. Everything looked new and updated except for the rooms.
We had a few problems such as the shower head wouldn't stop dripping and the water pressure was so harsh you couldn't be in there any more than a couple of minutes. also there was never a good balance between the hot and cold water in the shower so it would go from really hot to really cold. Also the bed was really firm, but after the first couple of nights we got use to it.
Overall it was a nice place, and it was really close to time square (about 7 blocks = 15 minute walk), its also right across the street from Penn station which made it really easy to get to and from the airport. We had our issues with our room resolved very quickly although the shower head still leaked, but we gave in and got ear plugs so we could sleep at night. I would stay here again and just hope for a shower that didn't leak and a softer bed.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Time Square, Penn Station.

Well maintained, friendly staff.
A little far from Times Square, no restaurant, no secure place for held luggage. (It does get stored, but just in a corridor on the ground level) Rooms a little dated.
It is a little far, but the tube station is not far, and if you love to walk, its a nice long walk from one end of the park to the other as the hotel is located at the Harlem end. Good rate for location.
Restaurant Tip : A cheap little eatery just 5 minutes down the road, which also has internet.

Very Central to key areas of the city, close to Times Square, MSG, Macy's and the train station.
OLD hotel, no internet access in the room, only in Lobby, and it has super slow WiFi.
Very very noisy location, taxis and trucks honking all night long.
It is a classic hotel, centrally located with easy access to Times Square, Greenwich village, and especially MSG, Macy's, the Empire State Building and Penn Station.
Classic also means old, the first room they gave us had a big moldy stain on the ceiling, they did change us to another room after I complained. There is very little in the way of soundproofing, and constant honking of cabs and trucks went 24-7, adjoining rooms with Spring Break mindset tenants may as well have been in our room.
There was no Internet access in the rooms, and you had to use the WiFi in the lobby. The worlds slowest WiFi, although it stated you had a fast connection, it was very very slow, and kept cutting out.
The concierge were somewhat clueless about travel to Long Island, leaving us stranded at a train station trying to get to Nassau Coliseum because they failed to tell us there is no taxi's at the suburban train station they recommended. The add-on fees they charged for show tickets not available at TKTS were more than the actual ticket costs.
As a cheaper alternative, I guess we got what we paid for, but I wouldn't stay at that hotel again, as I was too exhausted every day to really enjoy the city that never sleeps, because I didn't have that as an option.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : TKTS for 1/2 price show tickets and the hop-on hop-off bus tour to get around the city is a good way to get to know the layout.

Location is great! Lobby is large and very nice with coffee, gift shops and a nice restaurant. Renovated rooms are small, like all rooms in NYC, but clean and nice.
Don't stay in a room that isn't renovated! Lines at check-in can be extremely long at certain times, such as Friday evening.
I have stayed at the Pennsylvania Hotel many times. It is directly across the street from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden and ten blocks from the theater district. The location is great, but some rooms can be very bad. You must examine your room and see if it has the newer furniture, armoir, etc. or you won't be very comfortable. With a renovated room, I am very comfortable and will continue to stay there.
Travel tip : Great Italian deli right on the corner; great taxi service by hotel personnel right in front; Madison Square Garden, train (Penn Station) and subway station directly across the street.

Nice, old character in lobby..comfy bed, several elevators to accommodate people.
Long waits to check-in and out...downstairs of lobby where the bathroom and luggage storage are, left a lot to be desired, very dirty and unkept, almost frightening to go there...
The hotel overall was pretty decent..it was very old and could stand some renovations, especially in the downstairs of the lobby..The stairs and floor looked like it hadn't been cleaned for years. Our room was very tiny, but that seems pretty typical of New York. The shower had great water pressure, the curtain was old. No vanity space, only a small shelf over sink. The room was kept clean if you could see through the oldness of it all. The location was great, close to Macy's, Empire State Bldg.. Penn Station.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Within easy walking distance of Empire State Bldg., across from Macy's and Penn Station.

Location was the only "pro"
Bathroom was filthy, no Internet access, slow, incompetent staff. I was just glad I was only there one night.
I would not recommend this hotel. It is old, filthy and is in need of a major renovation. The only advantage is the ideal location near Penn Station and subway lines as well as ample taxi availability.
