Location was fine (came in from Penn Station), got a great rate for NY and for the hotel (even less than the negotiated rate for the meeting I attended). Reasonable charm. Room was upgraded, and was bigger (although still small) than I expected; quite comfortable for the rate and for overnight. It was also quiet and clean. I like to take the stairs, and ALL the stairwells were very poorly lit, such that I was a bit uncomfortable walking the stairs alone. I can't imagine the lighting is actually up to code. Could have used more personnel at the check-in, but I suspect those who were working are in accord with that observation! The hotel was easily accessible from Penn Station by cab and subway. The room was a pleasant surprise, as I was expecting a very small European style room and it was quite comfortable. The bed was great, the TV a nice LCD (although the furniture may actually have accommodated the original Roosevelts...). The bathroom was small but clean and adequate. The room was also quiet, which is a plus. The area was also convenient, with a numbre of great neighborhood restaurants which were surprisingly reasonably priced. Now if the hotel could only do something about the weather...
Yes, I would recommend this hotel!
Restaurant Tip : Several great little delis/Chinese/coffee bars nearby (across the street).

location, hotel with a feeling of the past, great foyel staff, not all friendly.
generally service was ok...no more the room they gave us was very small and dingy...we asked for and got a better room. it was actually an upgrade but they did not charge us. there could have been a more reasonable restaurant and room service was very pricey. i liked the atmosphere of the hotel but did not find it very clean. the worst for me was the noise...you could hear your neighbors very clearly and the door shutting was not pleasant.
Restaurant Tip : manhattan cafe...excellent and very reasonable food for all meals. 45th between 5th and broadway

Loved it all. Beautiful hotel, very convenient location, very good price. The Roosevelt Hotel is a New York landmark,in a very convenient location,it is within easy walking distance of Grand Central Station, Times square, the Theatre district, shopping and dining. The staff was friendly and helpful. Not a cookie cutter chain the architecture was very interesting and unique, luxurious and harkens to the time of grande hotels. I would return without hesitation.
