Kinda divey, but you get what you pay for...
Nearby several good Brooklyn restauraunts and a small natural grocery store

this is more like a motel than a hotel. not far from the williamsburg bridge which takes you right into soho/les, so if you are on a tight budget and want to explore those areas, it is an option. the front desk staff was indifferent and located behind plexiglass. they were flexible with my check in and check out times, which i appreciated.

It was a cozy and good room, but it was quite uncomfortable Brooklyn area. Do not go alone because even you have to be careful when across the street. Even though it has give sign for walking people, the car won't see that.
Hotel Feature Tip:
For the front desk service, please be more friendly! And please change the pillow cover since I saw a black dot on it.
For girls, avoid go alone around here because it was unsafe, even you have to be careful when across the street. Even though it has give sign for walking people, the car won't see that.

Making a reservation for a motel in Brookly was a bit scary. What would the neighborhood be like? What would the motel be like? Could I park my vehicle safely ?
I was pleasantly surprised on all counts. The neighborhood was right near the EL Train and surrounded with neighborhood business in typical Brooklyn fashion. I was able to pull my truck off the street and onto the Sumner Hotel property.
The room was adequate size, perhaps a bit roomy for New York standards, and was very clean. There was a refrigerator and a nice spacious desk with office chair. The bed was comfortable, the bath was clean and updated.
The neighborhood featured they usual local shops and deli's.
The Sumner Hotel was a great place to stay, and if I happen to be in Brooklyn, I would not hesitate to stay there again and again.

The staff are rude. They don't like to talk to you. Also, if there is some problems, they will blame on you. They think that they never have problem and all the problems are come from travelers.
Also, there is a hidden cost for luggage storage . Also, after I paid, there is no receipt for record. It is very ridiculous.
The manager on duty is not in this hotel. That means there is nobody in charge in this hotel. I cannot imagine what is the consequence if there is a accident.
Do not stay here! The price here is enough to live in hotel in Manhattan.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Do not stay in this hotel! That is!

Near Subway from still a bit far from manhattan

Only one box next to subway (Station of Flushing Av.), convenience to brooklyn, but a bit far from manhattan, usually take 30 mins for hotel to manhattan, If you have enough budget and want save time, better choice near Central park hotel.
Restaurant Tip:
Hotel provided free simple breakfast(please enjoy), "Ihop" is one of the american style food next to hotel, as most of nearest restuarant are fast food.
