The position of the hotel near Central Park was very convenient.
The old style of the hotel was charming.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Walk in Central park and take a carriage ride the drivers are funny and very knowledgeable.

Great Staff - But too expensive for the stay
The staff are all friendly, responsive and helpful!!! The neighborhood is in a beautiful part of town and having Central Park in such close proximity was a treat.

Noisy. The doors/walls are a thin and we could hear our neighbors coming and going as if they were in our room with us (we stayed in two different rooms and they were both noisy). There were no water bottles in our room (to buy from the mini-bar). A breakfast for one cost $50 and everything was very overcooked. One of the things I look forward to when I travel is to be able to use the room service - I don't mind paying, but the food has to be at least of standard quality. I found that it's worth going out to one of NYC's great little coffee shops to get better food for $12/ person.
This hotel is known for it's celebrity guests, which, being from L.A., isn't usually something that would bother me. That being said, the place was crawling with security for international political guests staying there -- and being under constant observation while trying to work out at the hotel gym, or simply come and go was intrusive.
Restaurant Tip:
Go a few blocks over to Lexington for quick bites. There are quite a few excellent little soup and sandwich places. They are open late.
