Great Location; Friendly staff;
No mirror in the room and no closet only a hanging bar.
I was looking for a hotel near New York University tudent housing and this hotel was a great find: Small boutique style hotel on the lower east side. Walking distance to my daughter's dorm with many dining options just steps away. Close to SoHo and the Village!
Well priced for New York; offering breakfast on the 10th floor (they don't specify the $15 charge so be sure to ask).
Restaurant Tip : Coppola (Northern Italian) just a few blocks away.
Trattoria Alba (Italian) on 34th Street between 3rd AND 2nd Avenues was great ambiance, good food and great service.

Location and cost for the neighborhood (Gramercy Park)
Rooms vary, having stayed in the Marcel on a number of occasions I have expereinced1 terific room and one really small/awkward room.
The Marcel is a wonderful quaint hotel just renovated. The new restaurant Inoteca is a great addition to this simple and beautiful hotel. My stay here has been delightful and the location is perfect! Just minutes away from Union Square, 34th street and Harold's Square it provides a great option to stay between Midtown and Downtown.
Travel tip : Great location for cocktails: whether you want to stay in, walk along 3rd avenue or "star-watch" at the Grammercy Hotel's Rose Bar you are within walking distance.

Nice lobby and great rooftop patio area.
Lifts are very slow. Beds could have been a little more comfortable.
This hotel was close to Union Square and in the middle of Grammercy and great restaurants on 3rd and Park Avenue. Warm feel as you enter the lobby with fireplace and friendly staff. The rooms are nicely decorated and the rooftop patio must be great in the summer.
