Cheap, close to everything, nice clean room, gym and swimming pool
No wire less internet.
The cafe on 1st floor is not that interesting
The YMCA on 63rd i a good place to stay if you are on your own. You'd feel safe there. It's close to shopping and Central park. There is a great gym and swimming pool. You have the oppurtunity to join yoga classes.
There is no wire less internet but they have computers where you can go online. Good value for money.

Location is very good in a nice neighborhood near to Central Park, the Lincoln Arts Centre and Columbus Circle.
The hotel is warm in the colder months.
Rooms are serviced every day.
There is a cafe on the ground floor selling reasonably priced food.
The accommodation area needs a thorough renovation.
The rooms are small, drab and depressing.
The bed was only marginally softer than the vinyl floor.
I had to ask for a blanket - for when the heating went off in the middle of the night.
The bathroom facilities are very poor.
There is only one bathroom for each sex on each floor - and the floors have 72 rooms, some of them doubles.
There are only three toilets in each bathroom and when I was there (Floor 10) only one toilet worked properly. The other two often didn't work.
The three showers are fiberglass shells let into the wall opposite the communal basins, with no discreet or secure changing area for clothes or towels. This maybe fine for gym showers, but not for accommodation facilities.
This hotel is fine for a night or two. It's near a subway with direct access to JFK airport so is relatively easy to get to. But it is not suitable for any longer. Bathroom facilities are, frankly, disgraceful for the potential number of guests and if you plan to spend more than two nights in the city it would be worthwhile going a little more upmarket and getting a better class hotel.
Shopping Tip : There is a supermarket on 58th Street just off 7th Avenue which also has a fast food section. Also check out the lower ground floor in Time Warner Building on Columbus Circle.

It's close to Central Park and Columbus Circle, people are nice, guests weren't noisy
cable connection poor, window treatments useless, bed short (and I'm under 6')
The West Side Y is a good place for the price, but don't expect any amenities. The bed and room were clean, the shared bathrooms weren't too bad, the mini-cafeteria had little to offer, but you could get wireless in the dining hall if you sat next to the window. I had meetings at the New York Atheletic Club at the south end of Central Park, and for a ten-minute walk between there and the Y I saved $200 over a night at the NYAC.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Walk on 63rd away from Central Park and you'll come on a collection of indoor-outdoor restaurants

- an excellent location
- reasonable price
- very kind staff
- quiet area
- long time for check in and check out registration
- small rooms
- noisy air condition
- unconfortable beds
I have spent a few days in hotel with my family (wife and two children). The position (near the Central Park)of hotel is excellent. The staff is very kind, rooms are clean, room service is very good. The rooms are a little bit tight, and air condition system is a little bit noisy. Definitely, you are getting what you are paying for, even you are getting more.

Highly recommended due to excellent location, organised approach, and security. Nice clean sheets & towels. Floor looked as though it hadn't seen a mop or vacuum in forever, but I did see cleaners at work so I think it is just old. Room quite small without view, but why go to NYC to hang about in the hotel? Bathrooms on each floor shared by all rooms, could be busy in the morning but never had to wait more than a minute or two. Didn't eat there so can't comment on food.

Proximity to the city center with the metro station were quite appreciable. The cafeteria serves good food at any hour of the day.
Rooms (bunk beds) and health a little bit spartan ... Home chaleureux
We spent 4 nights at the West Side YMCA. Its location is really great (just beside the south west of central park and a subway entrance), the area is nice (there is a shopping mall, restaurants, a cinema nearby). In the hotel there is a cafet serving meals at all hours (they are not bad, there's choice and it is cheap (no tax or gratuities). At home, he is difficult to get a smile or even sometimes information ... The rooms (bunk beds) are small with a TV and a small window but no sink! The towels are changed daily. Toilets are relatively own (the health women and men are separated!). It's expensive for what it is .. but this is New York!
