Simple and clean hotel
10-15mins walk from Market St and Civic Center BART station minus the dodgy night time crowd on Market St. Room s clean and bed was comfortable.

There is a bar right around the corner of the hotel. I was too tied to go in to it but is must be quite popular, because I can hear its patrons talking loudly till the wee hours of the morning. It didn't really affect me that much but light sleepers beware.

Nice price but not in a nice neighborhood

I stayed there for 2 nights after a business trip. I would say that it has good location, very close to Union square area, and the room is comfortable enough based on the price. However, the Civic Center neighborhood are full of homeless people, although there are lots of nice small restaurants as well. This might not be a good choice for a female visitor.

can be not that safe at night in the area

Very good hotel in wrong location

I stayed for 4 nights in this hotel. this is a very good hotel with cheap price. This hotel also close to Moscone center, the conference area. I feel comfort, and maybe will stay here in the next trip.
But I just feel this hotel has difficult area. In the first day, I worried to out at night because of some homeless people a few block of this hotel. But if you need to go out at night, you can use taxi in the way of return.
Shopping Tip:
If you need moslem food, you can visit Mi Tiera, close to this hotel

ok hotel for the price

this hotel looked more like a youth hostel than a proper defined hotel....however, the staff was friendly and the room although somewhat gloomy, with a very small bathroom, was acceptably clean with a nice mini fridge and free strong wifi in the room. hower, the common computer in the small main area of the hotel, does not have a printer attached to it, so that if you need to print something, it will become an issue. also, unless you love to walk a lot, the hotel is 15 fast walking minutes to market street, the main downtown artery of san francisco. if you do not like to walk a lot, then i would suggest a more centrally located hotel. be aware however than sf is a very, very expensive city including hotel prices...so, if walking is not an issue, gloomy rooms, do not bother you, and want to be close to bars, this is a good place. last but not least, if you do go and stay here, make sure that you ask a room away from the attached bar, since the noise might be too much at night. my room was away from the bar and heard no noises whatsoever.
Travel tip:
The McDonnald's on the east end side of Market Street, does not have restrooms available....

not easy to find something in this price range so close to downtown s.f. market street, muni, bart are all in walking distance. we took a taxi from the airport but if you want to save money, ride the bart up to civic center and walk the two blocks to the hotel down 8th.
soma used to be a bit derelict but is developing into a hip corner of town with nice bars and restaurants, some very close to the hotel on folsom. (we didn't take advantage of that too much with children, though.)
rooms are clean and well-kept though not overly fancy or spacious. coming back from a road trip with 2+ weeks of camping out, however, a solid bed was most we desired.

ok hotel, near attaractions, bad neighborhood

we are two women that stayed at the hotel after a business meeting.
i chose the hotel because it was relatively near the main attractions and the price was affordable. it turned out to be ok during the day, but at night the streets that you must walk through to go to the main attractions are full of drunks. we solved this by taking a cab back to the hotel at night. not a bad deal, as the cab was around 8 dollars.
the room was clean, a bit crammed with too many pieces of furniture (we had 2 queen beds in a relatively small room), but the beds were comfortable and clean, and so was the bathroom.
complimentary breakfast was simple but ok: orange juice (from concentrate), coffee and tea and several kinds of muffins. friendly staff.
