That it is closing in September
Hotel was in great location right on a corner,and on the other 3 where also eating and drinking places.Had good sized rooms staff where very helpful
Breakfast was nothing fancy but had all one needed.
For tours which where arranged though the hotel the bus stopped right outside and was a very reasonable price.
Across the road was the bus stop for downtown and took you right to Pier 39.
it is such a shame that the hotel is closing to become a hospital.
Would have stayed again.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Had good selection of tours at hotel and bus for downtown across the road

It's close to downtown San Francisco and accessible to many things and transportation is great.
It's exterior and interior are dirty or at least look dirty. The paint on the wall also looks dirty. The AC doesn't work.
I had greater expectations for a hotel that is in the center of San Francisco. If it were cleaner it could easily attract more customer.

Near to a bus station and reasonable restaurants
Location is likewise near Tenderloin area which makes it a bit risky to go out at night.
Cathedral Hotel is quite an aged hotel and it shows in the rooms and the public areas. That being said, the hotel gives you reasonable value for your money. However, it lags behind in offering free wi-fi services which other hotels in San Francisco are offering. Staff are quite friendly as well. I might not rate my stay very high but it is not really as bad as what other reviews said.

From Golden Gate Bridge : Exit at Lombard Follow Lombard to Van Ness Avenue, Turn right... Proceed (approximately 15 blocks - between Post and Geary - on right hand side)
From South of San Francisco (San Francisco International Airport and San Jose) : 101 North - Follow the signs towards Civic Center - Take the Mission Street exit (Mission Street is after 9th Avenue Exit) - Go right at the end of the off ramp on Mission - At first light go left on Van Ness Avenue - Follow Van Ness Avenue to Geary - Go left on Geary - hotel is the first drive on the right off Geary.
From East Bay : From the Bay Bridge (I-80), exit on the right side at 9th Street/Civic Center exit. At the signal, go straight ahead onto Harrison Street. Go one block on Harrison Street and turn right on 9th Street. Be in the left hand lanes of 9th Street. At Market Street, the left lanes will turn into Hayes Street. From Hayes, make a right onto Franklin Street, go up to Post Street and turn right. Turn Right into the ramp just before Van Ness Avenue and proceed to the front door of the hotel.
