Exterior of hotel looks very run-down. The hotel is within walking distance to 2 metro stations (Pershing Square Station - 3 mins, 7th Street - less than 10 mins). Convenience store, pharmacy and fast-food outlet are also within walking distance.
The exterior of the hotel looks rather run-down but the room looks ok.
Overall, my stay is pleasant.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The hotel recommended taking a 2 hours bus ride to Disneyland. But it would be faster to take the Metro to Union Station, transfer to either Metrolink or Amtrak to Anaheim station and take the Disneyland Shuttle (ART). This takes around 75 mins including waiting time. I believe it would be cheaper to take Metrolink instead of Amtrak but would advise users to query the ticket prices.

Great location, clean, neat , tidy, and with helpful staff. The hotel is very well located in reach of all interest points and is reasonably priced. I definitely think it served its purpose. No mini bar or food was available on the premises. The area is also less of a tourist trap compared to fisherman's wharf but on the contrary there are a lot more homeless people about. They were pretty wacky but harmless.
Shopping Tip : Westfield shopping center across the road good for shopping and food

From the San Francisco international airport take highway 101 north, exit on 9th street/Civic Center; stay on 9th street. When crossing Market street, veer right onto Larkin street. Follow Larkin street (approx. 6 blocks) to O'farrell street. Turn right onto O'farrell street. Stay on O'farrell until you get to Mason street (approx. 5 blocks). Turn right onto Mason street, go approx. 2 ½ blocks. The Hotel Metropolis is located at 25 Mason street, on the right side, right before Market, Turk and Mason streets meet. The parking lot entrance is located right before the hotel.
