The location is terrific. The bathroom remodel was elegant and functional. The rooms are quiet for SF and beds very comfortable.
Some touches such as robes were missing. The lobby is now bland whereas it used to be very elegant and historical which made it special. Victoria Secret opening into the central hallway is a little tacky. The hotel dining room is overpriced, service marginal and the food below par especially for SF. My husband was to receive a next day air package delivery which showed it arrived on Saturday but was not found until Tuesday.
We booked our room to be on Union Square for the USC-Cal band rally. The location is great. However now it feels like another Westin and not the historical and romantic St Francis of old. On the plus side the rooms are much more modern and comfortable than before.

Lobby bar-snack area too small.
The St. Francis has served visitors to the City for over 100 years and is a great hotel. We stayed in a room with two double beds on the fourth floor of one of the two original wings. The room was good size and well maintained. There was a seperate alcove with desk for a computer and the web. More closet space than you need. There was a little noise from the street, but it was Powell Street and expected. Staff was very friendly. I remember the old lobby bar of 30 years ago and would like to see it back.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Do not use a car, use the public transportation, the MUNI. It is easy, inexpensive, fast and goes everwhere. It is more fun, too!

The room was quite small but very nice. The bed and bedding were great. The location was wonderful. Close to all of the shopping and restaurants. The Michael Mina restaurant is the best there is. The staff was very friendly. The cable car drove directly in front of the hotel and taxis were available any time you walked outside.
Restaurant Tip : Michael Mina's restaurant in the hotel is wonderful. The lobster pot pie is to die for!

Location, comfort & quality.
I loved the location. Close to all transportation. I arrived early to check in & the front desk was more than happy to take my bags to my room so I could explore the city. The room was incredible, with plenty of space, a large bathroom & the best bed ever! Loved the flat screen in the room & the shower with two showerheads! Since I was a lone female traveler, I wanted a place where I felt safe. This was the place. Loved the historic aspects of this hotel. Great concierge service. I will stay here next time I visit for sure!!!

Terrific location and superior quality in all respects.
$15/day for internet is a bit too much, and it's quite slow.
This is a hotel with class, reminds me of Peninsula in Hong Kong. Our room was spacious and the beds were among the most comfortable. All the supplies, from the free coffee & tea, to the soap and towels are of high quality. Daily cleaning service was well done. The location of the hotel is simply superb, with so many great restaurants and shops within a short walk. Even Chinatown is just 15 minutes walk away. Muni and BART are readily accessible, never needed a taxi.
Travel tip : From the SFO airport, take the BART to Powell St, station and the hotel is just a short walk away.
Buy a CityPass at the Powell St. booth that includes a 7-day Muni bus pass and admission to several museums/attractions.
Check out the discount theater ticket outlet across the street from the hotel.

Good location
Good housekeeping service
Condition of room
Small bed for a double room - very unsatisfactory
Hotel would not provide 2-bed room despite being asked for early. Bed was a double for 2 people. Very unsatisfactory. Room is in need of updating. Dirty woodwork, rugs and no fan in bathroom.
Travel tip : Nothing that was not expected except for disappointment with the hotel itself.

The luxurious interior of the entrance itself. I stayed in very large rooms and $ 150 less, through a solemn atmosphere. The equipment was kept to a minimum.
Rather than a receptionist or a friendly, familiar feel that customer. Suddenly was asked to address in Japan, GOOGLE EARTH Street View is showing, "Sugoidaro" like. Was going to be pleasing, "I know of such a" feeling that was.
Emperor旧舘also stayed in that (will) tall and divided in the new building, and he just stayed in the new wing 10F. I thought the elevator was suddenly dark electric was out for see-through. Since returning to the tour, When asked who wanted to leave my bag, I hear in English "Bring it to Asuko" was just called. Little haste. In private, high quality and what seems a bit unnecessary. The location, Yunionsukue In front of a building cool. POWELL 10-minute walk from the station.
Shopping Tip : Macy's close to it!
