Solid hotel with great staff

Thai cuisine, view during breakfast, helpful staff
This was a great option for a one-night stay before tackling the Shimanami Kaido bike ride and the English-speaking staff were extremely helpful by offering to store our luggage for two days while we explored the islands. The twin room we had was very spacious with great bay views and very good value for money. Also, while we were not getting tired of Japanese food it was also great to have dinner at their authentic Thai restaurant. Consider taking a taxi when you go up the first time, we used google maps to make our way up and it lead us down some small garden paths instead of the proper (but equally steep) regular path. Probably not so much fun with a suitcase, but we found it no problem with backpacks. You can do it, it;s good training for the bike ride anyways :) One-way taxi ride ca. JPY 1400.

Room with a View

Service. Views of the port. Peace and Quiet.
Although are stay was brief we will always remember our visit. We were warmly greeted and efficiently checked in. Our clean room boasted a panoramic view of Onomichi. The city lights and sounds created a peaceful ending to our day. We slept better than babies!

Hidden gem of a hotel

Amazing views and Awesome Thai food
The hotel sits on top of a hill overlooking Onomichi harbour. The view in the morning is really special. The hotel owner's wife is Thai and runs a great Thai restaurant in the evenings which seemed to be popular with the locals as well. Breakfast is traditional Japanese. The hotel is a bit ageing and run down, but the friendly service, great food and amazing views more than make up for it. I look forward to staying again.

Would not return

Nice view, Visit Parks
I stayed at the hotel one night, in the dormitory. I booked the night in advance and I didn't check properly ways of arrival. THIS IS A WARNING, there are no buses up to the hotel and the cable car up the mountain doesn't work until late so if you do plan to go you will need to arrive early. Or else you will have to take a taxi (1000 yen a direction) or walk (like me) which is really NOT recommended. When I finally arrived to the hotel, exhausted and sweating, I tried to get to the room I payed for in advance but apparently I needed to let them copy my passport (as they are legally required) before I can take a shower. Needless to say that I was not in the mood to open up my bags in the middle of the loby and take out all my money infront of anyone present, so I tried to explain myself, after ten minutes reinforcements were called to deal with this problematic and sweaty guest, and this guy who managed to understand why I wanted to take a shower, insisted that I need to pay, after I showed him the reservation and receipt of course, misunderstanding in a bad timing. So after all this and about 20 minutes I get to go to the room (no lockers in the dorm btw) and while I'm taking the shower one of the staff came to the dorm to see what's taking me so long to bring my passport. This was the worst of course it doesn't end here, but to shorten the story the owner is really nice and when I met him he fixed a little what I think about the hotel. If you are looking for a nice view just visit the park during the day. The room itself was nice but no lock for the room toilet or the bath and the staff is amazingly terrible, if you have a choice, stay away.

We enjoyed the Thai food and great view.

Views were spectacular at night! On top of a hill so it's away from noisy streets. The restaurant serves good Thai food.
Everything was great except the bed was a little on the small size. (Not a full double)

Friendly staff, Fabulous view

Though my Japanese is slim to nothing the staff was patient and put in every effort to make our stay comfortable.
We were there on full moon night in September and couldn't have been happier with the view. Incredible! Great place to start the Shimanami Kaido bike route from.

Friendly hotel, but access a little tricky

Friendly and has a wonderful view of activities along the river.
Friendly hotel with a wonderful view, and good wireless access in the rooms. I was disappointed in its lack of a guest laundry (particularly given its location at the top of a hill meant that using commercial facilities was not convenient). The Thai food in the restaurant was reasonable quality and good value (though as foreign travellers we would have preferred local food as Onomichi apparently prides itself on its food).
