The Mercure is well located on Adelaide's North Terrace, across the road from the suburban train station and casino. The Glenelg tram runs past regularly. The hotel is located near the Sebel, a vastly superior property that was fully booked on the day I stayed.
Unlike much of Australia South Australia does not suffer from a shortage of well trained hospitality workers, but it seems this property is unable to retain great staff. At best the staff are brusque, often frustratingly unhelpful.
For the price point the Mercure did not provide the atmosphere nor services one would expect. Staff would disappear mid-enquiry and even acted like the mere booking of a room was an unusual inconvenience. The room was oddly shaped and generally inconvenient. Insufficient staff were on hand for the guest numbers attempting to leave.

* Upgraded to a better room on arrival
* Very friendly and helpful staff
* Fantastic location close to everything in Adelaide
* Noisy (and very small) fitness room and very noisy lift shaft
We were upgraded instantly when we arrived here, which was nice as we had not been impressed with a previous Mercure hotel. Our room was lovely, clean and well presented, though it was next to the fitness room which had a very noisy shower, and was obviously also near the lift shaft which was again noisy. The hotel is close to Rundle Mall and Rundle Street, and we didn't need to get any public transport to get around, though there is a free tram that passes the hotel. The staff were very helpful with booking a transfer to the train station and also helped me to organise by phone another transfer for later in our trip. Overall, we would recommend and stay again.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : * The beautiful Adelaide Arcade on Rundle Mall has some great little shops and a very interesting museum area on the balcony.
* The Austral Hotel and the Exeter Hotel are both brilliant for an authentic Aussie experience and have fantastic wine ranges.

Across the street from train station, walking distance to museum, art gallery, zoo, Rundle Mall, restaurants, everything you need.
Room was VERY nice, but bathroom appeared dirty. If my bathroom at home looked like that, i'd be ashamed to let my family use it.
Have to use stairs to get to some of the rooms.
Room was VERY nice, but bathroom appeared dirty. If my bathroom at home looked like that, i'd be ashamed to let my family use it. I.E. mold in the grout of the shower, and dirty shower floor. We stayed here twice with 4 days in-between our stays. The first time they had up-graded us to a nicer room and i wasn't aware that they had done that. Pleasant surprise!! the second time, we got the SMALL room that our "class" of accommodation called for, and it was at the back of the hotel. To get there, we went to the 4th floor (by elevator)and then had go down 2 1/2 flights of stairs (???) NOT cool, when you have some big bags!! So i asked for a different room...they then gave us one where you only had to go UP 1/2 a flight of stairs, but it looked out onto a street that had a LOUD bass/disco beat pounding into the room. I CANNOT sleep through that junk, so i called the front desk again. The assist. manager offered to up-grade usa for one night, but said he couldn't do it for all three nights. But he did offer to up-grade us at my expense at a discounted up-grade rate for the other 2 nights.
Hotel Feature Tip : The 2 rooms we had that were QUIET and VERY nice (except for the mold in the bathrooms) were 447 and 450. VERY quiet on this side of the hotel!

Good location.
Nice and helpful staff.
Cleanliness is a concern. A dusty room in fact.
An old designed construction building that definitely needs be re-modernised.
Poor air-cond.
Really far below our expectation once going up to room floor and entering the room. Just a surprise and upset by the level of cleanliness inside room. Whole hotel definitely needs be entirely refurnished if it is going to continue charging at such a price despite of being in a good location. The exercise room is only a very small one that no one likes to stay and use at all. It's the worst hotel that we have ever stayed and definitely no second time and no recommendation.
Shopping Tip : Rundall mall is just a street behind the hotel.

Friendly staff. Quiet, clean rooms. Good location, closed to restaurants and nightlife.
Tiny room (and bathroom) very far away from the lift.
Despite arriving early in the morning we did not have to wait until official check-in time to get an available room.
The budget room is very small, but basically you get what you paid for.

The room was utterly small for travelling couple. There was no desk and hardly no space for luggages. Although, the room was refurbished, very clean and tidy. The location is convenient for shopper and clubber. Their garage was full, but they offered parking space from nearby garage.
Nightlife Tip : Hindley street never sleeps.

situated opposite central rail station on North Terrace, elegant lobby, friendly staff.
rooms are spartan...my single chamber en suite faced a courtyard in rear annex that was accessible via a flight stairs and far removed from the elevators.
This hotel was not what I expected from the Mercure chain. Although convenient and friendly, the rooms lack decor--white walls, tiny TV too far from bed to see comfortably with or without glasses, bathroom squeezed into tiny space, limited parking beneath the building is unsupervised so larger vehicles took double spaces and left late-comers with none [upon inquiry found an overflow place but had to make two u turns to get to it]. Breakfast at AUS$ 17.50 was no bargain.
That being said, in photogenic Adelaide, what more could one want than budget accommodations on North Terrace, walking distance to whole city centre.
Shopping Tip : major shopping area two blocks south of hotel at Rundle Mall, also nice restaurants. Tram to Central Market for best multicultural experience.

Decent hotel. Good Location. Some of the attractions are nearby. The railway station is right on the next block. This was a functional hotel. Nothing too fancy, nothing major to complain about either. Decent hotel. Good location. Nothing major to complain about either.

Close to the Casino and center of town
Bit of a catacomb trying to find the room in the budget section
The check in and check out was smooth and fuss free. The room while a bit of a 'hike' to find was roomy, comfortable and clean. Central to the casino and within easy walking distance to the CBD, eateries and shopping area. The room was quiet, that is, no neighbour noise to disturb you. A convenient place for an overnight stopover.
Restaurant Tip : Good cheap eatery in the Casino Cafe/ Bistro

Clear instructions from reception staff, loved the bed spread in the room really brought out the fact that the room was not so small, glad there was a kettle in the room for tea n coffees.\nAlso impressed that with a budget room, there was an alarm clock, iron, iron board.
Such a long walk to room, not much fun when intoxicated or tired.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Mecure Grosvenor, even if it was a short stay for two nights. The reception staff where nice and polite. It was a bit of a journey to my room, I never realised how big the 4th floor was. I also liked my room very much, it was nice and comfy and still I felt like I was living in luxury. I was very impressed with the way it looked, especially the red bed cover which made the room look a lot bigger than it actually was. When I first entered, although I did get confused at one stage thinking I would have to share a bathroom,as I thought the bathroom door was actually a cupboard. Over all I was very impressed and will definitly stay there again. But hope that I get to eat at your Restaurant and also try Room Service. Thank you :)
Nightlife Tip : It is very close to Rundle Street Mall, the Casino, Railway, Tram and Bus', very close to Hindley street and a 15 min walk to the central Markets, the Gardens and Zoo.
