Our 2-night stay at the Holiday Inn was far from perfect because of the noisy people in the hallway. We thought that that staff should've been more proactive in making sure that hotel guests or friends visiting them don't stay in the hallways and talk so loud as if they're in their own house.
The room we stayed in was nice though, clean and had a very comfortable bed. I expected the Internet to be free since a lot of smaller and even cheaper hotels have offer complimentary connection. We had to go down to the bar to use the wifi.
And since it was the Ironman weekend, I think the Holiday Inn was a good spot for those who wanted to avoid the noise of the streets and party music from the park at night. All in all it was a good stay and I would recommend the place to those who want to walk around the city and still get a good night's sleep.

overpriced for what you get

- the room was smelly, caused by the carpet
- asked for a quiet room - had annoying a/cs outside the hotel running 24hours (instead of traffic noise in the other room...)
- stayed 3 nights and the bed linen was not replaced although we put the change-sign on it twice
- cleaners make the bed. thats it...
- breakfast rather basic english style. no add-ons offered
- hotel staff rather polite, but not friendly

Guests driving from the South on the Bruce Highway - on arrival in Cairns instead of turning left onto the Captain Cook Highway into the city, they should continue driving to the Esplanade on Florence Street. Guests driving from the North on the Captain Cook Highway - when approaching the city should turn left into Florence Street. The Holiday Inn Cairns is located on the corner of Florence Street, Abbott Street and the Esplanade.
