Daily Room Service The gym was unusable
Room setup
We stayed at the Lakes for 1 week in February, 2009. The resort itself was well situated but there is a number of things that need attention.
The gym was totally unusable - the ceiling had a massive mould/leaking situation that made the whole room stink so much so that you could not afford to compromise your health by breathing the mould spores in particularly when exercising. One of the reasons we booked here was because of the gym. It didn't even have a treadmill. We were not impressed.
The room setup was not the best as the bedroom only had a double bed and it didn't have solid walls - just sliding timber shutters - hopeless for noise. Try sleeping when the other person is watching TV, particularly when the TV is setup about two feet away from the bed.
Would not stay here again - dissapointed - The Lakes is supposed to be 4 1/2 star.
Travel tip : Can walk to Dunwoodys ( Tavern ) that cooks the BEST meals! YUM!

Amazing environment.
Friendly staff.
Very clean apartments with all the facilities that one can think of in an apartment.
The only weakness is that it is a little far from the esplanade and thus the main market.
The Lakes cairns resort is a perfect honeymoon destination provided if you love to cook your own food. The apartment has all kinds of amenities to make your life simple and the only thing you need to worry about is cooking. The apartments are very well maintained. The facilities are really amazing with 3 different pools to make your stay comfortable. Overall the resort is a perfect destination, the only negative being its location but there is a frequent bus service to take you to the main city. Highly recommended for those who are looking for a peaceful environment.

Overall, an excellent value. Next time we may try something closer to the city centre if we don't rent a car.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Walk over next door through the Boardwalk into the Botanical Gardens for breakfast! great eggs benedict in a beautiful setting.

Cairns and the surrounding is wonderful, the people are quite friendly and well organised. However you pay the price for it...(even Australian classify Cairns and its tour activities as tourist rip off).
We did not use any service at the hotel (not more than any other hotel but as expensive as Tokyo!) and preferred to shop at the supermarket located a 10 minute drive (Coles and Woolworth) away.
For families with small children this place is really excellent.
